HP-14 Feed Back

One of the scale sailplanes on my to do list is the HP-14. I would like some feed back on this. Other plans and kits. Experiances with scale and even full size!

Thanks!

Hey SoCalG,
There's one in Hemet. Let me know if you need photos. It is outside tied down so photos are easy to get. (T-tail Verison)

Was a V tailed one there in 1970. Also a Pratt-Reed and a 2-22.

Sure! Digitals of the T tail would be great. If you are there when the owner has the cockpit uncovered a few pictures of the insides would be good too.

Helped put the V-tail together a few times.

Martin Simons book "Slingsby Sailplanes" ISBN 1-85310-732-8 has a good section on the HP-14 (Slingsby built the glider under lisence from Schreder).
It has a few nice photos (in black and white, and nowhere near enough for full documentation but they show the different variations quite well) and a large section on how it was made/performed/flown in competition etc.
But the best bit is the three view drawings. They are all dimentioned and are brilliant if you plan on designing it yourself. They also show the various tails and wings used on the plane.
I did take a photo but by the time id reduced it to 100mb it was to small to see.
The book retails for 39.95 (about $70) in the UK from Amazon, but I got a second hand copy for 20 ($35ish), also from Amazon.
It's a good book for modellers because of the three views, and I'd recommend this to anyone planning on building a Slingsby (or the HP-14) sailplane.

Hope this has been useful, sorry I couldn't post the image.

Thanks Conor. I have the Simon info.

I was wondering if any modelers in your part of the woods have build an HP-14 from local plans or kits. Would like to get these impressions.

There's a guy that is still selling parts and plans for the full scale HPs. His website is... http://www.hpaircraft.com/ There are a couple of drawings that would be perfect for a scale project. ( I used to have a complete set of plans.)

There's a site on the web dedicated to Dick Schreder's designs, and it's... http://www.soaridaho.com/Schreder/

On the second page, check out the designs topic. There are lots of pictures there. Of note is HP-14T - N4088C. I built that one and unfortunately never got to fly it. I got promoted several times in rapid succession and got moved around a lot, so I had to sell her almost finished.

Keep us posted, I'd like to see one in 1/4 scale.
