Making springs
As a locksmith I've needed to make replacement springs for old locks that are still in use over the years. I managed by guess and by gosh pretty well, but I imagine it's a subject most folks here wouldn't mind knowing more about.

Spring stock can be had from the likes of Mcmaster-Carr. Some locksmith supply houses also sell flat and round assortments but they ain't cheap. Most locks, especially older ones, use flat springs of various widths. By the time I get to them the springs are gone or shattered, so I have had to use a little imagination to picture the old ones-which can look pretty odd. Here's a simpler example:
