Build Log

Sig 1/6 j3 cub

Hey guys I started my build a couple of weeks ago. Decided to start a build thread to go with it.

This is my first sig kit. I've built a few other less involved kits before and some foamys. This will be my first glow powered build. I'm still undecided if I want to go clip wing, full length, undecided on paint scheme.

I'm having technical difficulties so the front fuse section got ripped off and is being done over but things were starting to not line up properly despite following plans to the T

I'm flying mine on two 2200 mah 3S lipos in parallel with a .40 equivalent Cobra brushless motor. Model will loop and roll from level flight and is very well behaved. Only complaint is hates to come down and wants to overshoot our somewhat short landing strip. I need to learn to safely slip it to kill airspeed for landings.

Installing and connecting lipo packs through side door/window is somewhat fiddly. Attaching wing struts to fuse attach points with small socket head screws and elastic nuts is also fiddly. A large metal clevis would be easier

I will try to be better about updating and taking more pics as I go along. This may end up being a long build depending on how finances go.

I did manage to get a little bit more done on one of the wing panels. I'm using sig bond glue so lot more waiting between dry times but I really like the strength of the glue bond

And I just thought I knew what patience was.

Managed to get a little more done to one of the wing panels today. All that's left is some sanding / wood putty and I will have completed one of the wing panelsName: uploadfromtaptalk1441764584923.jpg

Made some progress over the weekend on the other wing panel. Also made a stop off at hobby shop and picked up some cub wheelsName: uploadfromtaptalk1442426092024.jpg

Made a little more progression on the wing. I'm moving like molasses on this build. I've been under the weather so I have not been doing that much this week. I did manage to join the wing halves and get one side glued.

If you haven't done so when building wing panels, it would be well to twist in some tip wash-out ( trailing edge raised near the wing tips during covering and adjust wing struts to hold it steady. Angling both ailerons upward an 1/8th inch acts like tip washout . Real Cubs had considerable tip washout for lateral stability.
Make sure that both wing panels are not twisted, sighting carefully from the back. The Dubro incidence meter is helpful tool,
