We had to continue 3 miles down the dirt road we landed next to before we reached pavement. As we turned onto the pavement I turned to Mike Grindle who was sitting next to me in the back seat and told him that now he was about to appreciate just how far we had come. It is indeed a long drive after a long day, but oh so satisfying. Rick |

Huge congrats,
Incredible. That's one hell of an achievement. You guys made an attempt in 2014?? You sure kept it all on the QT!! A driver, two spotters, CD and pilot. Does it really require 5 people to make an attempt like this? Can it be done with 3? also, can you change pilots on successive days so more than one person gets a chance at a record? Steve |

For an FAI World record you need a minimum of 4 people. A Pilot, 2 observers, and a CD. One of the Observers can also be the driver. Everyone must have an FAI Sporting License. The new rules allow a co-pilot to fly a small portion of the flight, however the co-pilot cannot be an Observer or the CD. So if you want a co-pilot you would need at least 5 people. In our case we could have had a co-pliot if I had made Marquita an Official Observer since she has a Sporting License. I thought there might be a perceived conflict of interest is she was an Official Observer so Rick and Mike we made the Official Observers. Therefore we had no co-pilot. I see no reason why you could not rotate the pilot on successive days, but each pilot might need his own sanction from the AMA. John |
