AR9x board for Turnigy9x & TH9x


Original first post was moved to 2nd post. You may find some information regarding Rev. A board.

AR9x Rev. A was produced around mid Aug and offered to around 10 users to hear their thoughts and ideas to make better AR9x board for Turnigy9x & Th9x.

http://www.ar9x.net was setup on 8 Nov and AR9x Rev. B released on public with price $29.9

Just over a month lots of questions and answers gathered over many pages. it became very hard to find right answers for many. So, here I list up most useful guides and Q&As.

* SAM-BA is kind of ISP using USB connection to PC.
* It can be useful when Tx doesn't bootup with flash failure.

AR9x is replacement for FS-TH9x & Turnigy9X transmitter main board.

Thank you. I'm primarily interested in it for a diy transmitter and also for conversion of some profi mc series transmitters from mpx, so I most likely don't qualify for your test batch but would possibly get a few boards when they become available for the general public. It would be great if you could share some technical details / specs.

Most important: Does it run OpenTx out of the box (possibly compatible with the 9xr pro) or would the FW have to explicitly support your board?

Compatible with both OpenTX and ErSky9x.
let me gather detailed I/Os and so on.

Thank you for this board, seems to be the most balanced choice to run without any limitation the open firmwares available today.

never seen Skyboard but they should be very similar to each other in function wise as board was build from Ersky9x and 9XR Pro source codes.

RealTimeClock? No need.

Hmmmm, allow me to disagree.. I do like the RTC, specially when I log all flights from my models and each of them has its own log book with date and time of every flight, together with notes if there was any situation, or if some repair was needed

But your board looks very nice. Do you have any specifications you could share? Voltages (batteries that could be used), etc??

I had really big discussion about RTC.
Some really pushed me to put RTC back in.

However, my idea was why I have to pay for some features I don't even care and eventually it will bring cost up.
No RTC no problem to me.

Settlement was making it as an optional.
I'm not sure whether you can see it from the first photo on top, major bus, I/Os are intentionally box aligned with VCC, GND next to.
So, if any one desperate to get RTC, additional cheap board, really cheap board can be provided.

Well, that's the idea.

before put up detailed specification

min / Max Voltage = 7.2 V to 15V
max voltage can go up higher but most 2.4 RF module doesn't take higher 15V

Batt V, STM L7805CV , AMS1117 3.3V 1A used for MCU
separate STM L7805CV for 3W Audio AMP but 1W speaker provided.

from 2S to 3S are very Ok.

Of course Battery reverse protection made save the board and any RF module attached as well.

Current Consumption 77mA with sdcard in
without Haptic, LCD back light, RF module.

Does it include power switches for internal and external RF modules?
I would agree that having a RTC as standard would be useful. Any files stored to the SD card (log files, model files) really need the date-time included.
Is the I2C bus available?
Does it include current consumption monitoring (current used by the Tx)?
Does it include a power switch for the third serial port? This is something useful for handling a bluetooth module.
I assume it includes a soft power switch for the main board power, needed to ensure the external EEPROM is updated. How is this handled/monitored? The I/O pin used is connected to circuity that also monitors the power being enabled by the trainer jack plug to select student mode.
Does this board support the FrSky SPort? If so, does the connection incude protection if a modified DJT is used that outputs +/- 6V on the telemetry signal.

The SKY board came first. The design was then used for the 9XR-PRO.

Ersky9x is conditionally compiled for the different target hardware, SKY, 9XR-PRO, 9Xtreme, Taranis, Taranis+ and the FrSky X9E. The same applies to openTx.
If this board is compatible with the firmware, then which version of the firmware does it use, or will it need a specific compile version?
