Depends on the switching regulator and how much filtering it has.

What software are you all using for PCB layout? I'm starting with KiCad and am wondering if someone already has a library for the rx5808 module.

In this case, the consumption of the rx5808 is max 200mah, and the atmel is negigible and also oled, so with 0.5A is enough.

In my case I will be using a LiFe battery with 10V, so 5Vx0.5A is 2.5W to dissipate in heat.

I spent last night and this morning looking into how to integrate a voltage regulator of some sort and the results aren't too promising. The 2 main issues are heat, and/or size of components.

The only option i can see is add some pads to attach one of these

That's why I reccomended the tracko power tsr 1 2450 one its very efficent and very small. I use them on my openlrs modules.

I did see your post but failed to respond in my previous post. That is an almost perfect option apart from the component price. I think the step down i linked would be the most cost affective solution.

I agree it's not the cheapest. Another option would be one of these

or this so it can run from a little 1s pack.

Great project here. I like building with through hole type components and am wondering if this would be the correct digital switch:

Thanks in advance

I've looked into the options for regulators and by far the easiest way to is to add a spot for the step-down regulator I linked earlier, 'DSN-MINI-360'.

This will be on the rear of the board and be connected via single header pins or pieces of single core wire. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi guys, I've got my parts orderd for making one of these (non diversity). Thing is, I don't really need the rx portion of it, the entire reason I bought the parts is to run as a 5.8 spektrum analyzer as part of my ground station.

Is there a way I can comment out some of the init's so it fires right up in scanner mode and that's all it does? Could I then even build it without the buttons, just an arduino, the rx and the oled?

is posible to fit it in the space for the oled display? It seems is a lot of space under the oled, also lots of space for disipate heat.

Or maybe on the rear of the rx receivers, I think the regulator won't add interference in the RF.

This should just be a change to the arduino code. I think it could possibly be just a change to the setup() to default the screen/process to the scanner bit, and disable the "screensaver" (though I believe the screensaver is disabled in the scanner?). The loop() will still act as normal as you won't have any buttons to change what is going on.

Hey shea, thinking about the screensaver do you know if it is safe make a switch to power off the oled to save on battery or does that screw up the protocol it uses and thus the arduino would have to know to reinitialize something?
