Hobbico Fast Field Charger + LiPo battery = Bonfire

This message from "Chuck Baker" <indyrcpilot@comcast.net> brought to you by EFLIGHT!

One of the guys was charging a 2-cell 1400mAH LiPo at the field last night
in the back of his pickup truck on one of those new Hobbico Fast Field
Chargers (the one that can charge LiPos).

This particular charger "automatically" determines the number of LiPo cells
(it is not selectable by the user).

Anyway, it must have chosen 3 cells instead of 2. He noticed that the pack
was swelling up, so he pulled it off the charger and set it on the ground
(out of the truck!).

A short time later, he was treated to two successive fireballs - one for
each cell.

He indicated to me that he would be using his Triton to charge LiPos in the
future!

Hi Chuck/All,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Hobbico ad for the Accu-Cycle Elite doesn't say it "automatically" determines
the LiPo cell count. The user enters the battery type, capacity, and voltage, and their so-called 'Auto Smart Set'
"automatically calculates safety time-out, charge rate, trickle rate and discharge voltage cut-off".
Sounds like the other LiPo chargers out there. The Triton works like that, the user sets the parameters and the
box does the rest. Works very well. Your buddy's charger is probably fine, did he program it properly?

Ed,

It was the Fast Field charger, not the Accu-Cycle Elite.
