Great Planes Fling

Has anyone flown the new Great Planes Fling? My LHS is supposed to be getting some in this week, trying to decide if I should buy one.

Have one on order. It has shipped. Should arrive either tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll let you know about it when I get it. Will probably post pics too. I hope to have it flying by this Saturday.

what airfoil is it using? Not bad of a plane for $65 bucks and it even comes with a mini highstart...

I am very interested in one too. Right at my sweet spot, $60 something airframes.

Awww man, it isn't fair to keep us in suspense. Not even a general comment about overall impression?

Saw one at the LHS. nice thin airfoil, an HN somethiing. short boom length. nice fuse, pull pull threads in place. I was thinking of modding it to a SAL, but I think its too short(31.5") and somewhat of a whippy boom. $65 bucks ...buy one. covering needs some shrinking.

Sorry to keep you hanging. Started on it last night and got it all built except for installing the "pull-pull" threads and installing the radio and battery. I need to solder up a smaller battery pack for it tonight and do some balance tests. According to the instructions, they recommend putting the reciever in the nose and the battery pack (rec. 350mAh) under the wing. I do not believe that the plane will properly balance that way unless you are using a really heavy receiver or nose lead. Both of which I wish to avoid.

As for kit quality, I found it to be very good. The fuselage is excellent quality for a light ARF kit. Only point I am concerned about is the slots where the "pull-pull" theards exit the carbon boom. They cut two slots directly across from each other through the boom. This seriously weakens the boom at that point. A much better arraingment would have been to stagger the slots so that they were still on each side of the boom but they did not line up directly across from one another.

I've decided to build it "stock" to get it done quickly and flying by this weekend. (Should be finished tonight) However, I will let you all know that I see it would be very easy for an experianced builder to modify this kit into a two piece wing and replace the rubberband hold downs with wing bolts. I could even see people "kit bashing" it into a flat wing with ailerons.

On the airfoil, Nowhere does it list the airfoil by type. It is rather thin. I'm not sure what it is but I'll try to do some outline comparisons later to ID it. I took two photos of the wing root to show the airfoil and the laser cut lightening holes. Regrettably, those two photos are a little blurry as the camera I was using did not like to do "macro" mode well. I'll post them as well the the others tonight. I'll also get access to a better macro mode camera to take better pics up close.

More tonight with all pictures.
