Mini-Review

MJX X800 (Under construction)

INTRODUCTION

After the mini-hexacopter MJX X800 and the nano-hexacopter MJX X900, here is the mini-size hexacopter within of the MJX "X" series:
the MJX X800.

BOX CONTENT

+ 1 x MJX X600 (with a 1S 750mAh LiPo ending with JST connecotr )
+ 1 x Transmitter (using 6xAA batteries not included)
+ 1 x USB charging cable (ending with a JST connector)
+ 6 x Spare props (3 CW, 4 3CW)
+ 6 x Prop guards
+ 2 x landing legs
+ 1 x Instruction manual (english/chinese)

OVERVIEW

-Front view

-Side view

-Rear view

-Upper view

-Bottom view

Two very light landing legs

Props guard

Without prop guard, lipo and landing gear the X800 is pretty light

and with the LiPo and prop guards

The total weight finally is 72.5g with everything installed

No more free room in the battery bay in width and height. Only on a longer model of battery is possible.

You will need to unscrew the rear one to open the bay

LiPo

A 1S 750mAh model without any indication of the discharge rate. The flying time is around 7mins.

Battery dimensions

Disassembling

You need a relatively long unscrewing session to access to interior part. Props are strongly installed on their respective shaft. It's very hard to remove them and the provided wrench tool can damage them. Prop guards are hard to unclip. I spent more than 30 mins to remove the 6 prop guards

Motors are connected via 1.25 microJST connectors. A good point for motor's maintenance.

The RF chip is a XN297 and the MCU a STM32 ARM core (classic architecture since 6 months)

Motors

Some 7mmx20mm coreless motors

Transmitter

Four shoulder buttons are present but in practice with this model only the two lower ones are active. The right one permits to turn on/off the lights (works also for the X900 but not for the X600). The left one activates a flips in the direction given by the right stick command. The central switch is used to turn on the X800 and to select one of the 3 speed modes. IMHO, it's not a good idea to share the power switch and the speed selection because it's potentially dangerous by turning off the radio accidentally. The beginner mode offers very slow rates (yaw, pitch & tilt) so ideal to learn how to fly a hexacopter. The yaw is so slow, you will need a nominal space to perform a full turn. The intermediate is much more sporty and the top speed is very good thanks to aeodynamic profile and the 6 motors.

Two tiny button are localized on the front part. The right one cycles between mode 1 and mode 2. If you click on the right stick, you enter in gyro mode (it's working also for the X600 & X900). With the mode, you can control the X-Y axis by inclining the radio. Coupled with the very slow beginner mode, this gravity mode is a nice feature for beginners. If you click on the right stick more than 3s, you enter in headless mode (press again more than 3s to exit)

The internal part of the TX :

The PQ297 is the XN297 with another packaging

FIRST USAGE

To make short, I liked it a lot !!! It's probably the most faster in the X's series. It's fast from the intermediate mode, flips are tight, LEDs ideal for night flying and the radio range is good also. The X800 is also handling wind conditions very well.... The flying duration is also good around 7mins. The X800 is my favorite between the X600 and the X900.

CONCLUSIONS

If you are looking for a micro-hexacopter, go for this X800: durable, stable, nice quality build, sporty good control range, and wind resistant... a lot qualities. In beginner mode, prop guards installed , gyro mode on, the X800 is perfect for beginners.I regret only mainly the automatic flips choice in expert mode even if this latter have the same rates than the indermediate one, so prefet this intermedaite with manual flips IMHO.

UNBOXING

PROS

+ Beautiful hexacopter
+ Wind resistant
+ Powerful
+ Good radio range (> 100m)
+ General quality
+ Sporty from intermediate mode
+ Bright LEDs
+ Power switch
+ Good flying duration (7mins)
+ Prop guard
+ LVC LEDs alarm (around 7mm of flight)
+ Gravity mode for beginners

CONS

- Hard prop guard and props removal
- Power switch and speed mode selection shared
- YAP (Yet Another Protocol potentially Deviatizable)

This quadcopter have been courtesy provided by Gearbest in order to make a fair and not biased review. I would like to thanks them for this attitude.

You can find it actually for 32 USD at MJX X800
Until the 07/31, there is a coupon (30.5USD) : MJXX800

You can find parts here

Good job mate. I'm very interested in this beauty .
What's the function of the small 3 pin connector in the aperture of the battery bay?
Did you test the behaviour when loose connection with the TX?

This is the camera plug, a 1.25 mincroJST 3P the same as the X600.
No yet tested the FS behaviour, I never reached out of control yet
I will update with this information

Thanks! I didn't remember this Quad can mount a camera
About the FS behaviour is good to know how react the quadcopter when loose signal. Some quadcopters simply drop to the ground, some continues with last command and some othes decrease motor power till land...

I haven't bought an RTF toy for ages, too many DIY projects on the go, but i think I'll make this my next purchase. What do you think of the TX SeBy? I find these are the weakest part of all toy multirotors from a usability point of view

The hard bit will be to resist the urge to slap some FPV gear on...
