Dominion 2-HW---"Tank" Test-she floats!

The boat just barely fitted in the "tank" but she did and floated! I tested it up to 9.71lb(including the weight of but not the buoyancy of the keel, bulb and foils which extends the maximum to 10.5lb static*)
Ideal is exactly 9lb or less(9.784lb including extra buoyancy static). As of now the hull weighs 2.21 lb.(52" X 14.25")
Couldn't be more satisfied!
That is 211 sq.in SA(1900sq.in total) per pound of boat weight at 9lb all up!(exactly the same as a 6.6lb mini40 tri with her "A" rig) And she has the RM to carry that much sail in around 9mph of wind.
* that is the boat sitting on her seahugging waterline not moving with all foils in the water.

Also mocked up the Trapeze Power Ballast System which will be 3' long and move the weight about 18" to windward from center in about 1 -1.5 seconds. It will move fore and aft about 12- 15" as well.

Will the ballast be adjusted by an on board tilt meter or by the skipper from the radio.

Trapeze Power Ballast System

By the skipper. It's a whole lot of fun and any electronic device would take away from that on a boat like this that is self-righting. Boats that can capsize like a cat or tri could possibly benefit from an electronic device .

Another "normal" scow I did 21 years ago with similar system:

Used SuperFill on the boat today. It's very lite-3.6lb per gallon but this batch was different and didn't work as nicely as previous batches I've used. It was "dryer" and didn't smooth out as nicely as when I last used it. Next step is to coat the hull with one or two coats of Duratec and sand.

D,

Shipment from Aircraft Spruce came in with the dacron cloth you suggested. Made up a test sample to see if I can make it work without messing up my hull. Will know in the morning. The dacron does look like a better cloth than I was trying to use for this purpose....thanks for the leads and the info...

peel ply

Hope it works well-did you get the 1.8oz?

Yep. got exactly what you linked me to. On the test I applied 1/2 oz cloth to a piece of ply, made sure it was completed saturated with epoxy, then layered that with the dacron and squeegeed the heck out of it. This test was more to test my ability to work with it....

I've got a small unheated shop so I built a foam oven with a small heater that I can control the heat in from 70-80 degrees. It'll sit in there all night...
