Did anybody ever build this as a twin J-250? It was mentioned as an option by somebody, but never followed up.

New to foamies

I have been folowing this thread and I am curious as to how you fasten the hatch for the battery, what is the best way to mount the motor, and what is the best and or quickest glue to use?

I used 4 neodymium magnets (one on each side of the plane, and one for each side of the hatch) for my battery hatch. It held tight even in the most destructive crashes and was easily removed to swap batteries.

For glue I used hot glue for one and ProBond poly urethane glue for another. Hot glue of course is the fastest way, probond takes a few hours to dry.

For a motor mount, I used 2 pieces of light ply (or a tongue depresser works too) glued to each side of the foam and then zip tied the motor. Thats a pretty common mount for this type of foamie.

Packing tape hinge on the foward portion of the battery hatch. One magnet/washer on the back portion.

Has anyone had success with the aquatic version yet? That would be an awesome addition to my camping/canoeing outings.

I'm looking at building one of the Insulators. I have several KAN 1050 7-cell packs and a bunch of J250's. Could someone give my any recomendations about if this would be a good combination? I also have a couple of Thunder Power 3-cell 2100's and a Balsa Products 2-cell 1500. What size prop should I use? I have some 3030's and some 4025's.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Keeping this plane light is the key, lipos really help here. I'm sure you could make an "original sized" Insulator, use the J250 direct drive with a 4040 prop and power it with the 2 cell 1500 pack you have.

My Insulator is a bit different. I enlarged the size 1.5 times, make a double layer "wing" section with a real airfoil shape, and used a J250 in a GSW100 gearbox. "B" ratio swinging an APC 9075 prop off a TP 2 cell 1320 pack.
