I just purchased a Pulse 15e and set it up with a tricycle gear configuration. I put in an eflite 3200mAh battery pushed all the way forward and still the CG is at 80 mm. That's way farther back from the 65-68 mm they recommend or the 74 mm others were saying. I want to fly it later today, but I'm afraid the CG is too far aft without adding weights to the front. What has been the experience with others with aft CG? How far can you go back on this puppy?

I have mine set up as a tail dragger and I keep moving the battery back (2600mah). I can measure it when I get home and let you know where the CG is. But I think it's considerably further back than what the instructions call for.

Actually what scottc39 describes is a good process. Start off at the recommended CG which is "safe". Trim the Pulse for level flight hands off. If it's a little nose heavy, you will need some up elevator trim for it to fly level hands off. Now flip it inverted. When you flip it inverted, that up elevator trim becomes down elevator trim and it should nose down. Land, move the battery back about a half inch and repeat the above process. When you get to the point where there is hardly any elevator change between level and inverted flight, you are as far back as you want to go.

Finally got the weather to fly it this afternoon. The battery was full forward and it flew very nose heavy with weight to get the CG at 70 mm. I removed the weight and it flew "better". I had to move the battery back about 1.5 inches, and it's "much better (not nose diving)", but still a bit squirrely, but the CG is at freaking 85 mm!!! When all the trim tabs are at neutral the flight control surfaces are perfectly straight. Really strange that the instruction book says 65-68 mm but doesn't say what the CG is for a tricycle gear config.

I just got mine from Tower. I love my first one after all the mods. I was curious if they fixed anything?.......NO. But at least I knew what to do. If you have trouble like I (and others) getting the wing bolts in---grind an angle on the bolts, like 30-40 degrees. That was the only thing that worked for me. I tried enlarging the holes, etc. Did I say how much I enjoy this plane!! Taildragger, 4 cell 3200 bat. (not 3 cell I said earlier).
I did notice on my first Pulse I am running an APC 9x6 on 4S. I did some prop tests on the new one. Stock 12 x 8 pulled 47 A (The esc is only a 40A!) APC 9x6E 29A APC 10x6 (Not E) 33A 500watts The surprise was a wood Top Flite 10x8 48A! I'm goona replace that crappy stock prop adapter. A 5mm is supposed to fit, although my motor shaft measures 4.4 mm? And roll with the 10x6. Compare it to the other Pulse with the 9x6 for performance and run time. |

Going to have to replace the motor soon though, as it sounds like it's on its last legs..... |

The guy I bought mine from just bought another one because he missed it so much. Mine has a Lemon stabilizer receiver in it and flies great in any weather. I made some mods to mine to stiffen up the fuselage and pushrod ends and it flies much better after doing that.
