Horrible "MX" connector on Hitec X4 Micro Charger

If you've followed the threads on the Hitec X4 Micro AC/DC charger, folks are pretty happy except that stupid "MX" connector is NOT what everyone thinks it is! It is NOT the Molex Picoblade that matches all your 1s gum-stick style Lipos. It's actually a JST-ZH series, which NO ONE ON THE PLANET uses for lipos. Colossal mistake by Hitec, IMO.

I sell a series of cables/connectors/pigtails/converters for this exact issue on my site:

http://www.rc-connectors.com/index.p...ndex&cPath=118

Specifically, here is an adapter that lets you plug your standard 1S gum-stick style lipos into that plug on the Hitec, and it won't deform or ruin your lipo:

http://www.rc-connectors.com/index.p...roducts_id=487

You can now choose your length anywhere from 1.25" to 20", long enough at the far end for charging in lipo bags.

Thanks,

Glenn

Hitec doesn't make this charger, Sky RC does (OEM is the Sly RC Quattro Micro). That would be the outfit to contact to ask "why?"

http://www.skyrc.com/index.php?route...product_id=188

I've had some email contact with them before, I may just contact them again and explain the issue and that it would be wise of them to consider modifying their charger.

Anyone know if that issue has been fixed on current versions of the Sky RC as sold here : http://www.banggood.com/fr/SKYRC-Qua...p-1008037.html - they do show batteries plugged into the MX port... Thanks !

I bought the Sky RC Quattro Micro 2 winters ago from my LHS but returned it and got them to order in the Hitec because, although it was little cheaper, it's cheaper because it doesn't include the DC charging cord, only the AC cord. Hitec adds the AC cord when they rebrand and sell it under their name.

I don't think the MX connector was any different on my Sky RC than on the Hitec but that was 1-1/2 years ago. But if Sky RC updated it you would see that reflected in current versions of the Hitec too. They also probably don't see any reason to update it because the JST-ZH connector used for the MX port is in fact used on many UM batteries, just not the E-flite (or other Horizon brand) batteries and it doesn't actually say it's compatible with those specific ones (which use the Molex PicoBlade).

Yes, they show batteries plugged into the MX ports but you have no idea what they are. And you can force the E-flite PicoBlades onto the MX connector so the marketing photos mean nothing.

After numerous complaints and, according to some, even denial by Hitec that it isn't the right connector for the E-flite batteries, they now include one single adapter in the box to adapt the MX to 1S PicoBlade lipos and sell separately a set of 4 adapters.

Thanks for the detailed information, makes sense and I suppose that if they include a cable and sell others separately it's "ok"...provided people have looked things up before ;-)

JST-ZH = 1.5mm pins, at the small batteries you need 1.25mm . There are enough reasons to use an adaptor. Over the time you will widen the contact, result will be no or less power. May be there are some differences in different brands, as more precision a connector has as more it will destroy.

Click the links in the first post - that's where I sell adapters. I also have just the raw connectors too.
