Your F4U is possibly the best you've done yet. Beautiful model...detailing that makes it really come alive in the air and on the ground. It has been fun trying to duplicate a carrier approach and landing with it; it just needs to be shot in black and white to look pretty authentic. Many thanks!

Have you seen the amazing USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier Phoenix Flying site?

Two versions availble, one has training overlays to help get the line up for the landing right.

Carrier site?

Naga,

Have you downloaded and tried the carrier?
I'm a little hesitant given that the link is so old.

Thanks, rickp

Yes Sir!

I downloaded it about two months ago.

No viruses or other malware were present at that time, it installed and runs fine. In fact I think it is one of my favourite sites.

I must however add the usual disclaimer just to cover my butt etc. ect. etc. Yada Yada, at your own risk etc. etc.

For those of us not aware it it, there is a similar thread to this one but for flying sites. That was where I found the Hornet Carrier site.

Not quite as well organised as yours rick, but loads of goodies there! Also, some of the links are now dead, but the really interesting stuff was still obtainable.

I've tweeked a copy of a zero provided by rickp and made a variant to approximate the offering from FMS in the 1400mm size. It's not perfect but it flies nicely IMHO. Let me know what you think.

I've always liked the canopy, and it should be a quick build given that I have the Mk1A and Mk5 files to use.

Cheers, rick p
Hi rick,

any news on the mk24?

Working on the Ryan STA right now, and the Mk24 is next.
I'm really looking forward to it.

EDIT: many subtle and some not so subtle differences, but coming along nicely.
Mk1A wireframe on the right; Mk24 on the left.
Or is it the other way around?

SECOND EDIT: Funny how at first glance the Mk24 looked to me like nothing more than a Mk1A with a P-51 canopy. Easy peasy.
But as I began building it I realized that almost everything changed - wings, fin, stab, fuselage, canopy, engine, and probably more I haven't discovered.
Good excuse for dragging this out? Third wireframe image is pretty close to the final 3D model.

Nicely done - I particularly like the gun port residue detail on the wings!

Don't forget the 'quick start' tutorial for Blender that rick and I worked on.
Rick has probably updated it since the first posting -- oh YouTube is a super resource.
Blenderguru has some great videos on application specific tasks/drawings.

I've been spending all my time in Gimp since working with rick on the early document.
That too has a learning curve.

I admit I wasn't aware of it, although I am sure rick would have reminded me.

Could you post a link please?

Thanks for the tip!
