smoke generators

I'm working on my "jersey city" build and I needed a smoke system. I found this guy who made his own on another site.
http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=25024
I pull some parts together to try and make one of these myself, I had an old steam whistle from a trainset, it ran off of 6vdc or so I guess and had a small fan that blew air to make the sound of a steam whistle. I used the plastic air box for the heater area, I built it very similar to the one on the link. The fan was there and it blew into the airbox so it fit just great, preliminary testing has it putting out serious smoke.
I'm using some bakers glycerine that I had, it's used in cake icing ?? it put out some nice smoke ???
I'm going to try an elect. cig. store and but what they call e-juice, it's used to provide the vapor in the cig. It's purpose made and it comes in flavors
I have researched some other areas for smoke generator and ran into vaping, it's an electronic cig. only larger and they make a lot of vapor smoke vapor. Check it out and see what you think, I think this we could use some of this stuff.

Go to a music or stage lighting outlet, and look for fog juice.
One of the guys that does the Halloween Haunted house said,
"There are some fog juice that you can breath all day, and others that will
make you cough up a lung. The good stuff is more costly, but it is better than
breathing the stuff from "the party store"."

Here are some of the smoker builds from RCg and WMU.

I was going to make a smoker that doesn't use heat nor any special fluid, just water. It's a ultrasonic mist/fog maker that is usually used in table top floral displays and whatnot. I'm sure I've seen mention of them on these forums. You'd just put one of these things (pretty small) in a closed container with some water and a fan to push the "smoke" up a stack. A possible issue is that they require 24VDC to operate drawing a little under one amp. Can be found on eBay, Amazon, and many other places.

JJC model did that very well, and is no longer available.

The issue with most of the DC versions is that it needs 18-24v to function.
Other commercial units are AC. I am looking to order some of the cup, or tulip
humidifiers that run on 5v, and use a wick to bring the water to the sonic disc.
Will report back once I get through some work, and get these ordered.

This outfit makes ultrasonic smokers. I have used them and they work fairly well. I still prefer the more traditional smokers because of the density of smoke looks better in bright light and at a distance.

The JJC unit used some sort of induction coil to either bump the 12 volt battery voltage to
24 volts, or create a small amount of AC power, just enough for the sonic disc.

That's why the units were so nice, as they used a straight 12 volts, and then had jumper
settings that could run constant smoke, or puff for steamers.

Sadly JJC long out of business.

im working on one using the concept from electronic vapor units.
ive built voltage regulators to keep the coils burning at 4 volts and my air pumps at 3 volts.
currently trying to hook them up to receive signal from my boats esc to run the entire setup.
should be low amp draw.
im burning standard baby oil....its a work in progress.
my air pumps pump air in both forward and reverse, diaphram air pumps pump the same air volume in forward and reverse, not like a fan that reverses flow when polarity is reversed.

Interesting, are you burning the oil, or atomizing?

im not sure if its burning or atomizing, either way im producing smoke/vape.
one of my regulator is down at the moment so I can only run the coil or pump....not both at the moment.

I can hook the pump upto my vape device and it blows nice thick clouds....but vape juice is costly.
a cheaper alternative is to buy just the ingredient vg (vegetable glyceryne) around $15 per gallon.its the main ingredient in vape juice that produces a thick white ploom.

This is a $60 device....not counting the juice.
I can hook up my pump to force air up the intake tube of that atomizer and about half that amount comes out the other side.
my problem is the pump is high pressure, low volume.so im thinking I need to run 2 pumps together.
another problem is this coil cant burn for longer that 1 min before becoming too hot and boiling the fluid and burning out.

so I need to build a bigger scale version using the same ohms, wattage and voltage.

But for the price....this unit is hard to beat, and it can use baby oil/mineral oil.

im putting together a test vid as we speak of my vape setup with airpump.
vids uploading to youtube now.
airpump is set to regulated 4 volts, coil is set to 4 volt 15 watts via the mod that's running it.

I bought one of these - works well but there is not much to it. I now build my own for about $12 if I buy the stuff at the local electronics store but am ordering the boxes and fans off eBay and will be able to build them for about $6 each. Oh, and I am using the coil from an old hair dryer for the heater unit. Works well, and is very cheap. The draw is 1.27 amps, and I can make it for 6, 7.2/7.4 and 12 volts by just changing the length of resistive wire. This one is for my Mississippi sternwheeler, hense the split stack. It is running off 12 volts, and uses unscented baby oil for the smoke juice. Believe me, smoke is the ultimate crowd draw at the pond- better than strapping on a Muppet! LOL

can we have a peek at the insides....lol.
don't wanna ruin your hustle incase you plan on selling them.

im positive I can build one, looks like project box,min cpu fan, wire size and coil resistence will be easy for me.....I build vaping coils.
I have 24g kanthal wire already.
