The 1L plugs are good plugs - is it a good safety margin to use them? Maybe, maybe not. If you blow plugs in a Jett engine, you’re too lean. If you launch 800-1000rpm rich from peak, you won’t need to worry about it unless your fuel system isn’t up to snuff. I STRONGLY recommend bubble free fuel tanks. Either Tettra or Bubblejett tanks. Standard tanks will have problems with fuel bubbling due to the sheer vibration of a screaming Jett out front. I don’t use standard tanks on my Jett engines.

Yep. It’s a good idea to do - it allows you to get familiar with the engine as well as monitor the system and get used to the engine and how they adjust. If you haven’t already, watch Dub’s tuning videos on YouTube. He has a little different method he does it and it’s a good thing to learn. Especially how he peaks an engine, but NOT in the traditional sense.

They are a relatively new addition to YouTube’s ever evolving library of stuff. I highly recommend watching all of his videos - especially the pipe tuning video and the carburetor tuning video. I started using his method for peaking an engine too - which he shows in a couple videos. Definitely a better way of preventing going too lean and blowing a plug.

No I haven't, I still need to get a needle valve for it and have had a lot going on to run that one... I DO look forward to running it but not sure when that will be. I will definitely post results... I looked at those documentation pages you posted and Dubb emailed me a bunch of pages.. Lots of detail what to do and not do with his engines... In fact I just moved the beginning of June and still have all my RC stuff in boxes (packed it all about 4 months ago).. SO haven't flown this summer yet... I will get there... |

The fuel tank I have for it is too big and is currently under the mount (Tettra 14oz). I may invest in a BubbleJett since that would fit a lot easier I could zip tie it to the outside of the mount (which is getting re-done - welded aluminum sheet instead of screwed/bolted together).

Here’s more Jett 56 footage on another boat I built. We then switched to my buddy’s hull. You can easily tell I had her choked back a bit. I had the needle set for 16,500 on the 10x6 as it only had bench runs on it so far. Dub recommended running it around 16.-17k for awhile before leaning it down to shred.
My boat (the first one in this video - Nevermind the verbal idiocracy - we were both basically Jett virgins here) only would run a max of 45-50mph. I’ve since redesigned the sponsons and rudder, so it should be up in the 60-65mph range. This same model boat with a 60LX ran a record setting. 65.1mph.

Here’s my other Jett in action. This boat has since gone 55.9mph. Selph Inflicted 3-point Hydro with a Dub Jett .35. AUW is about 4.8lbs.

Update.. Not yet.. LOL Dealing with more health issues I also informed earlier that I moved this past June, well I still don't have my workshop set up yet. I need to get a main needle valve for it as well.. One of these days.
I do have a engine test stand I built but again, has not been used. Plan on breaking some rebuilt engines in this spring so I will probably get that valve and dig out the Jett... |
