Dickie Toys Pistenbully 600 - 1/18 scale Snow Groomer

Picked up the last two Dickie Toys Pistenbully 600's in Edmonton today (I think this is being discontinued) while I can still get one. Will mod it from toy grade r/c to hobby grade (if possible). It's very scale for a toy grade r/c

am just adding it here and updating my thread title

Blizzard lighting mods

Starting the lighting mods

Decided to go with some locally bought cheap parts for the amber strobes to try to lower the total cost of this project, especially after buying 3x RC4WD LED light bars.

DIY amber strobes...
- lenses from some incandescent indicator lights
- amber LEDs
- Dimension Engineering DELight user script-able LED controller to program my own strobe effects (already have a bunch of these. Some of my planes and my Axial Yeti have one in it, fantastic product).

Hey North,

Nice addition to your collection!
Seen these in my LHS, and always wondered how they perform.
Lovin your planned mods and I'm really looking forward to a video.

Thanks for the post,
Steve

Yeah, man... I've been wanting one for a couple of years and finally pulled the trigger

I've been researching over the last week and they perform better with the Sabertooth ESC which is almost a "must do" mod. It allows a different easier way of working the sticks to operate it and also allows you to change to a pistol grip surface r/c radio if you want.

Some guys upgrade the brushed motors to brushed Traxxas Titan 380's.

Others remove the blade and go brush-less to rip around faster, but that requires upgrading parts of the drive train to metal parts.

Yes, there will be videos

I've been working on the lighting mods for the Blizzard yesterday and a bit today. I have 3x RC4WD light bars, 2x 50mm and 1x 20mm. The Sabertooth dual ESC is on its way.

But I decided to do the amber strobes a different way using stuff bought locally dirt cheap... update in post #3 above.

Hey North,
Just checked in, nice scoop on the Pistenbully 600. No punn intended .
And great lights on the Blizzard. Didn't know they had an upgradable drive train like the army tanks. Nice!

Yeah, I'm trying to get the Blizzard finished before the snow is gone to get a good video and it's disappearing fast. Have some more immediate r/c matters on my plate right now though.

I actually don't think there's much I can do to the Pistenbully except maybe a battery conversion from the 6 AA it takes. And I don't even know yet if I can fit a pack inside it. I'll do LEDs in those top front light mounts.
