***Help on Battery for GWS A-10*****

What Battery should I purchase for GWS A-10 EDF-55? I'm looking for engine power.. I'm getting so many suggestions that I don't anymore. The hobby shop told me to purchase Li-Poly 1200 7.4, can I go higher? Again I'm looking for engine power without burning the motors out. Also, I have a GWS gs-100 SPEED CONTROLLER....will this speed controller have anything to do on what size battery I get? If you can help me on the best battery and Quick field charger to purchase. The hobby shop has the Li-Poly 1200 7.4 for $60.00 and the Hobbico Quick field charger for $80.00....if you have a suggestion, please let me know and place to purchase online.
Thanks so much

The GS-100 will only just do one motor you will need another one the same or a 15-20amp speed controller to run both, stick to Nimh batteries.
If you are going for LiPo batteries you will need a speed controller with low volts cutout to suit a LiPo CC Pixie 20 or Jeti JES-020 (GS100 will kill a 2cell LiPo and murder a 3C)

2 cell LiPo will not give you enough power for this bird, a 3cell will work or 9 or 10 1050mah Kan cells but for better performance a Tanic or similar 3C 2200mah will really work.

http://www.aircraft-world.com have all you need and fast.

On site above, Poly-Quest AC-PQ1500-3S or AC-PQ1800-3S or AC-PQ2200-3S

Servos will be fine, you only need two !

Cheapest option (but not as good) is to purchase another GS-100 (then you have one for each motor, use a Y lead from Receiver to the two GS-100s) and run a set of 9 or 10 KAN cells, people are getting good results on the GP equiv. do a search around for recent threads

Thanks so much

My advice- Get a FMA lipo specific esc , you can set it to one to four cells . I recommend a 20 amp controller. The Gws 100 doen't even come close to what you need and getting another ,one for each motor, doesn't make sense when ten more dollars will buy the one you need.I've been flying mine on a 3s 2100 lipo for some time now (six plus hours now on motors) and I get great performance without any problems . I've heard some arre using 2s 2p 1350 but I'm almost sure that I'm getting better performance but I think I am stressing the battery (comes back hot !) 2s 2p users report cool batterys.

www.GWSExpert.com Mr. Jerry Chen use a 1s3p 2000mAh Li-Poly cells pack. He said this will fly more than 15 minites!

From Aircraft the Jeti JES-020 would be good only they are out of stock, the FMA above sounds good also.

You would need Deans Ultra connectors on the Battery

A slightly smaller 1800 poly-Q would also do the job, and a 3cell LiPo charger is required.

Try www.hobby-lobby.com Part # JES020 @ $39.90; or,
www.castlecreations.com and look for the Pixie 20 ($39.95); and, I believe Tower Hobbies carries the FMA line www.towerhobbies.com. Whichever site you select, do a search on the site. It will take you directly to the item and part #. Also, try www.gwsexpert.com and search there if you would like to stay with the GWS ESCs. A 300 should do; however, with Li-pos, you may need the 400-480.

Blue skies and calm winds!

P.S. Which EDF-55s do you have? The 150s or the 300Hs. In previous threads, flyers were reporting good results with 2s Li-Pos on the 150s. 3s is tricky and can fry em up. Alternately, the 300H motors do not run for any appreciable flight time. One even described it as a long coast (from hand launch) to the ground. Here, the 3s Li-Pos work well with ATV and/or throttle management. With either, you cannot go wrong with MiMHs, but GWS did not include NiMH nor Ni-CAD recommendations in the EDF-55 kits, nor AUW and CG location.

****Tell me If I have this correct Please****

I have the EDF-55 300H

1. I will need to purchase a Poly-Quest AC-PQ2200-3S (11.1V, 22.0A)

2. I will need to purchase a Jeti 20 Amp Microprocessor Motor Controller
( For 4 to 8 Ni, 2 to 3 Li-Po cells, 20 to 22 Amps )
JES020 www.hobby-lobby.com

Do I need a Deans Ultra connectors for the above setup? if so, what site?

Will the above work well with my GWS A-10 EDF-55 300H? I don,t want to cause more problems by going with the above items.

You can get the Deans Ultra from aircraft, you will need a male for the speed controller, a female for the battery, and a male for the charger.

If you go with the LiPo 3C batteries remember you will need the correct type of charger ET-SMARTCHG-4 .. NEW! Li-Poly Safe 1-4 Cell SMART CHARGER 250-2500mA, from Aircraft @ $49.95 will do, DON'T use the older chargers meant for Nicad or Mimh batteries
