Awsome!

I've been following these builds from the beginning, and think they look awesome!

I thought the Dark Skies video was great, but the quad sound was spoiling the effect for me, so with Olivier's permission I tweaked the soundtrack a little!

Nice, you can begin to gather sounds for the other SW ships, because here is another one

Comparing the first sketches to the Falcon, nope, too small :

Studying different scales :

Trying to predict the final weight, and overall weight balance, with areas :

Go, let's print !

... then cut.
It's not all there, and later I'll redo several pieces.
For scall, tiles are 30x30cm.

Quick and dirty mount, to get an idea of the size :

I'm getting better at cutting nice circles

The thingies at the back are too thick, I cut it all by half :

Testing with the quad, there's a weak point in the design because of the hole, it's going to break...

And it breaks :

Brand and type of the foam :

Addign 6mm carbons for stiffness :

Remaking the bridge :

Three ion-stuff reactors !

With LEDS :

First test in the garage !
All fine, just a slight vibration that I think I know how to fix.

Adding more pieces :

And one important carbon on the underside, so the model perfectly fits on the top of the frame.
This should get rid of the vibrations I noticed earlier.

Best way to gain weight is to make bevels :

Adding the 2 shield projectors on the bridge, and other details.
As-in : "stuff that will probably break first".

Adding the 4 smaller thrusters :

Now ready for paint :

I reduced the armor overhang (?) by 5mm, was too fragile.
Still is, but less.

The whole foamy fleet !

Painting is done, final weight is 380gr, and 360gr without the removable cover that is above the rear propellers.
Made this bit removable because I'm not so sure how it would react to such an obstacle in the air flow.

Those are all awesome. I can't show my kids or they'll demand I make one too!

Maybe

I've made 3 flights, it's going well, just it loves to balance front and rear, because of the long nose, I believe I could fix this with different gains for tilt-forward and tilt-backward, but the actual Naza controller cannot do this, so it's a bit tricky to fly, still very doable at slow to moderate speeds.

I'll make more tests with bigger motors, MT2216, instead of the current MT2208, and see if extra power make it any better, I'm not sure, it's more a flight controller-versus-inertia thing...

So I'll probably hollow the nose, I'll remove a triangle of 30mm foam from the main plank and will replace with 3 or 6mm Depron.

I don't have enough for a proper video yet, but what's for sure it is looking badass in the air !

I made a flight with the extra cover above the rear props, and as expected it caused troubles, it forces the quad to hover angled 15 backward, so I'm glad I made it removable, I'll keep it for static display only...
