You're welcome. It's the 3-view that I've been using for my design and it's reasonably accurate when one view is compared to the other. I have a couple more colo(u)r shots of the "City of Jacksonville" paint scheme that I'll put online later today.

The second generation Y/A A-4 includes both features you've described. I've noticed that all of the Viojet models which use a bifuricated inlet system are this way as well.

On the other hand, glow models with a single inlet like the F-16, F-86, etc. do not have a splitter plate.

Thanks for posting the detail pic. It's always interesting to see how other people accomplish a given task and I think you've done an admirable job with both the ford and the scooter.

In contrast, I'd planned to have a straight shot from the inlet bulkhead to where the duct halves join.

Very interesting. Did you perform this testing with a bifuricated inlet or a single?

This testing was done with a single inlet. I was trying to use some 2" plastic fans I'd found at a surplus store to make a s300 powered EDF unit. They best thrust I got from one was a little more than 3 oz., and it was using 10 amps on 8 cells. The current drop was in the order of less than one amp.

Hi guys,

For all of you 106 buffs out there (you know who you are) might I recommend a book with a 3-view of your favorite plane?

The title is Aircraft Profiles Vol. 3 Military Jets

It's available from www.traplet.com

Latest Update...

Hi All,

I've posted the latest construction update online. I've completed the forward fuselage. Next comes the cockpit hatch and inlets. After that is the rear fuselage. Then it's time to join the two halves and mount the wings and vertical fin.

Then the fun will really begin...

Click on the photo below to see the latest.

Latest Updates...

Below are a couple of pics that show the progress.

I've completed the fuselage and am ready to mate the wings. Next comes elevon servo mounts and linkages, then finish the inlet lips and hatch over the inlets, then throw on a basic covering job. Should be ready for initial test flights next weekend.

I tested the WeMoTec MF480/AP-29L combo last night. Using 8 CP-1300 zapped it was pulling 22 amps for 211 watts. Next I tried a 10-cell CP-1300 zapped pack and it pulled 29 amps for 348 watts. As Herb has said, the AP-29L seems to be quite a motor. There was very little arcing at the brushes and the fan unit was turning up really well.

I'll keep you posted.

Dan

Dan,
Looks great and a simple concept to build. Good thinking!
Gregg and I are planning a couple of scratch F-104's later this year. You guys are really getting me going with
all the great stuff your doing for the contest.
Gregg and I have sort of our own contest, that being able to get the F-104 flying as a good EDF. With those
little wings it's a great challenge as will being getting all those nice contours in the fuse.

Gregg:

Thanks! We'll know next weekend exactly how well it flys. It's a bit heavier than I'd originally planned. That might have something to do with the sheer size of this puppy. It's about the same size as the Flankers. All up weight with the airframe and all of the components including the 10-cell pack is just over 39 oz. I expect it'll be up to almost 3 Lbs. RTF. Even so, it'll still only have a wing loading of 17 oz./sq. ft. instead of the 12, I'd previously predicted. (Oh, darn )

I'd like to take the credit, but I just integrated two technologies pioneered by others. The wing design came from Steven Ellzey's Apex and the fuse from Kevin Cox's F/A-18. Still, working at a leisurely pace, I've been able to get this far in only a month.

The F-104 is another of my favorite airplanes. the small wings don't make it that difficult to fly. They make it difficult to SEE!

I really like Kevin's style of design. He kept the cockpit section rounded for appearance and squared off the back of the fuse for simplicity. It's really a good, FAST, way to build.

I'll be watching for your "missile with a man in it."

Yay!!

Hi Everybody!

After a couple of false starts, I had my first successful test flight today with the six-shooter.

The first was because I came onto the power too late coming off the catapult. (Works great, BTW!) The second was because I didn't have enough up elevator throw to keep the model off the ground.

The third attempt was a success and got a whole flight in. I'll post the video later tonight.

The WeMoTec MF480/Ky AP-29L hybrid worked great and pulls this model around the sky very well. Thanks for the tip, Herb.

That's all for now.

Thanks!

I need to get the markings on it and get it ready to fly at the MWE this weekend. It's only got the basic paint job. It needs the stars and lettering. Lots and lots of stars...
