Debugging non-axial rolls (and wierd loops) with wings
HI Guys,
I need some help debugging why my wings are not rolling well along the axis (and also why loops end up like corkscrews). My rolls tend to look like corkscrews rather than spinning along the axis. I know one of my elverons must be deflecting more in one direction than the other, but is there a good way of detecting/fixing this? Can I just change my EPA on my radio for the servo that is going too far? Is there a better way of dealing with this on an eclipse 7 radio? I also have loops that start straight, then end in a corkscrew hints? |

What you are describing is exactly what happens when one elevon deflects more than the other. When I have set up my Speedwings (3x) I have used a piece of masking tape with an arc drawn on it. On the arc, I have placed a colored dot for the max deflection of elevator and a seperate dot for aileron deflections. I then take the tape and stick it on the opposite wing and set the elevons there. I have done this on 3 Speedwings now and works perfectly. Make sure when you do set your elevon deflections, have your Tx dual rates set to High. Then have low rates set to about 60% of max. This way you will be able to have a controllable wing during take off and landing.

ok.. did a quick check of the throws... it seems that one elevon has about 1cm of throw in both direction, and the other has about 1.2cm of throw. So, I guess at full full deflection, one side goes up 1.2cm and the other does down 1cm. This is probably my problem. Now, how do I fix this on an Hitec eclipse 7 radio? Does EPA work in elevron mode? (i.e. can I put one servo at 80%)
