Forgive me for a dumb question, but I'm trying to learn construction techniques (especially ones that lead to low weight). Why do you choose to cover the depron with balsa? Why not just depron, or even just balsa sheeting? What advantages does the combination give?
(Again, please be assured I'm just trying to learn, not commenting.) |

With balsa you need a internal structure ribs/formers stringers and then the sheeting can start. This method leads to a very light model and a very nice looking one
My method since its scratch card model build I needed a former structure to build upon. Once the formers are in place I needed to ensure that my profile is correct so all the sheeting are done in depron. Now I could have done it in balsa instead however it would have warped or what not. So best method I found was to make a under structure/skin and then balsa skin over top. I was going to leave it a depron model but foam dings |
