OK Racers, show off the winter projects!

Ricochet S/N 2 is going slow due to allot of design changes and other commitments. Might start the monocote process next week. The new Feng Shui line box is ready for paint. Waiting on some of those new NMPRA decals!

Dave,

I like your flight box. Here is what I was working on today, thanks to the 65 degree weather in Denver:

Nice Iron Crosses!

Nice Iron Crosses Kurt, no mistaking it in the traffic pattern!

New club Quickee for racing with the southern Utah gang. And since I seem to be building race planes again I dug out an old EF1 project.

Cool!! Is that a Polecat? The cross must have been tricky to get correct. Looks good!

Bill,
Tell us more about the EF1 kit - very nice!

Dave,
It is a Miss Dara from Tom Scott Racing. Almost the same lines as a polecat.

Kurt, it's an old project that needs resurrecting. There's new racing activity in Southern Nevada (Las Vegas) now so it's time to get building!

Haaah, Yes. I think I saw the plugs at the NATS in 2013. Very nice looking airplane.

Bill,
Have we ever met? I was a regular at the William Bennett Field in Las Vegas between 92 and 96....Very active in club quickies(Scat Cats) back then. I also spent allot of time there between 2006 and 2009. I used to fly with Al Szabo Sr. and his two sons. Crashed allot of helicopters trying to keep up! Good Kids.

Met and married my Wife in Henderson. I flew for Air Vegas Airlines until 96'.

The Control Line Aerobatics guys are the best builders!!!! I walked over to there event at the NATS and looked at some of those airplanes. YEP! real nice!!

Small world

Wow Dave, small world! I don't think we ever met but our paths sure crossed. The Clark County Dept. of Aviation purchased the Henderson Airport about the time you left Air Vegas. I'm a rwy/airfield repairman for the Dept. and was stationed out there for two years. When Air Vegas moved to VGT I transferred with them.

Been flying with Alan Sr every weekend for a while now. We fly controline and RC together at Bill Bennett's old private estate at the south end of the Strip. It's about 20 acres, enough to set up a 700' 2-pole course! I'll tell him you said hi.

The Southern Utah Pylon Racing Association fly Club Quickee and Warbird racing. The plan for Las Vegas is to reintroduce racing to the new group out at Bennett Field. The LVRC club decided to start with PZ T28s, my personal hope is that we'll move up to at least Club Quickees.

Tell Al and Diane I said hi!

YEP, flew the Cessna 402's, Beech99's and owners personal Bonanza at Air Vegas Airlines for three and a half years. Jim Cruson was the Director of Operations. He was a very good guy to work for. Ex F105 Wild Weasel Driver.

LVRC hosted some great racing back in the day. It was a regular stop on the NMPRA schedule for Formula One and had some of the first big Q40 races.

They did club racing with Scat Cats. I built one for Tom Hart, Nick Trifilio and Bill Madden, and at least three for myself. Al Sr. has one of them that I built in his hobby room! I raced it and sold it to Bill, Bill raced it and gave to Alan Jr. the thing still lives on.......

Good Times.

Hey Bill been waiting to see that Dejavu finished for a couple years now. I will be keeping an eye to see if you put it back on the building board.

It's back on the short list Brian. Club Quickee is raced in the area so that one will probably get finished first but the Deja Vu is out of the box and sitting in daylight again. Good to hear from you!

Warbird racing is gaining in popularity and is currently what I race. Wile most guys are flying some sort of P-51 variation, my warbird of choice is the Italian Macchi 202. I started scratch building these a few years ago as wood and foam running in the silver class with a .45 2 stroke. The current revision has a glass fuse, foam wings and is powered with a YS 115 WS. Currently building 3 of them and all at the stage as in picture #1. The remainder shows a little history of the design.

Dave,

Kurt is pulling your leg. That's not a Miss DARA; it's a Fokker Eindecker. Kurt is planning to take it to the Nats next year, enter it in Military Scale, and sneak in a couple of test flights on the big runway before they open it for R/C Pylon.

I just hope they don't downgrade him too much for not having scalloped trailing edges. That's a major feature of the Eindecker.

Cheers,
Duane

Duane,

I figured the scalloped trailing edges will eventually appear after numerous trips up and down the basement stairs! Or as a Tailwind or two go blowing by me and buzz me with the prop just to humiliate me.

Kurt
