Is easy to wire up a 5v step-down to power the camera. Very nice that its only 58g without a battery. You can find lightweight step-downs that are only 2g.

Though i would have preferred the power/usb port to be on the backside if i'm going to have the cable connected all the time.

Thank you about the step-down converter. Which voltage values are usually available on flying toys?

Regarding weight, in the front part of the camera there is a metallic surface under the front camera. Maybe is added just for a right balancing of the camera?
The brown thing I think is the Wireless antenna.

Most flying models use 3 cell lithium polymer battery's, so 12.6v fully charged. However, many of the small multirotors use 4 cells, and thats 16.8v fully charged.
Like this one
Soothing Madness (4 min 12 sec)

But all flight controllers and receivers use 5 volts as input power, so there's always a stepdown somewhere on them. There really isn't much need for supporting anything but a 5v charging input. Unless one wants to connect it directly to a car battery.

On our "toys" you cant connect it directly anyway, as power from the battery has to be filtered or it will contain noise/ripple from the motors.

Can this camera record video and still images at the same time, as the gopro can?

When recording and long pressing the shutter button I hear a "click" sound but no image captured during recording.
SJ released a new firmware (v1.2) for SJ5000+ which fixed the problem with default setting EV=+2.0 instead of EV=0.0.

Could you record a sample video on a sunny day to see, how SJ5000+ react to shooting directly to the sun and show image quality in the shadows?

I almost forgot how is looking the sun. Bad weather here and also hard to record nice images in beginning of the winter when nature is grey. :-(
If you have some youtube link to try the same thing you want to see, show me.

I hope I will receive next week also the SJ5000 Wi-Fi and make some side by side comparison. In the first post you can see the differences between SJ5000 models.

enjoy,
Mtz

They've only been an ebay member, for 5 months and they've only sold to other foreign countries. Mostly the sj4000 cam. So, my guess is, that while you'd be paying for an sj5000, chances are,(being that the sj5000, is still in the beta stage), and more than likely, not out for retail sales, yet, that you'd be getting, the shaft.

100% positive feedback but a recent seller from 2014.
I think until the end of the year nobody will sell the camera in reality, maybe only pre-sales and some sites are saying 30 december. But 30 december is something like 7 january because of the new year party. SJCam is still working on firmware.

enjoy,
Mtz

PS: I received the latest firmware before it was released. Few hours before.
