Phasor 45-3 experience; props & watts?


Seems this motor performs a bit different than how it calcs; please list your experience. Specifically looking at a 12 cell trainer application.

In ecalc or motocalc use an rpm/volt constant of 720, you will get more accurate predictions.

I've used it with 16 cells, 11-8 cam nonfolding prop, 39 amps.

Phasor 45/3


Hi, I have two of these motors but I consider them to be medium power. Do not use above 11.5x5.5 (plastic) e-prop as the motor will get hot on a sunny day. Using the above prop, it powers my 5 1/2lbs scale jobs with ease, but I wouldn't use any more power than the max cells the leaflet says (16).
There is a wrong number of cells in a table on the motor list, which should be 16 max to keep the curent down to 35amps, cheers Robin Andrew, Birmingham, England

700?


Searched a bit more here and elsewhere; found a posting listing 720, M & E Calc still list 800.

Finally went to the Jeti website ( http://www.jetimodel.cz/eng/hlavnien.htm ); they list RPM/Volt as 700 for the 45-3 and 1050 for the 30-3 (the 15s probably differ as well).

Using the RPM/Volt listed for the 45-3 as Kv still yields a bit more amps than what Jeti shows in their tabulated data. Note RPM/Volt is not Kv; but some motor folks don’t go the extra step to give us Kv.

do you have one? I've got one NIB - not trying to sell, but if you need a quick static test, I might could get to that this weekend? I've got every size of APC prop I could try (won them @ SEFF last year).. no, I won't try ALL of them, but if you've got something in mind..

Thanks for your offer; but only if its easy.

I don’t have one, and am considering it as a recommendation for a friend’s .40 trainer on 12 cells. It looks like the best “plug and play” solution, and offers some growth (16cells, and even w/GB) over the AXI 412014.

Considering the APC“E” 13x8 or APC“F” 13x7 (w/50mm hub); estimates based on my Calcs and “readings” look like these should pull in the low 30s.

Steve Horney’s reviews are both interesting and a bit confusing; some info was 1st listed as the 45/3 but later listed as having been a 30/3. What read like his last/corrected 45/3 data still seemed like it was 30/3 data – 50+amp w/11x6 on 14cells. Also, he found that like the Jeti 350/500 the Gold 40-3P can be used w/14 cells, note BEC is not used (switch left off).

Ken Johnson flew his Cosmic Wind on the 45-3 with a CAM 11x8 on 14 sub-C's, so a 13" for 12 cells sounds about right. I'll test with some props in the 13" range and get back to you. I have 12-cell packs of zapped RC2400's I can use..

Thanks Andy; that’s a lot better battery than the plan!

Much like the economical “brushed” package I put together for a 40ish trainer ( https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...92&postcount=4 ), the plan for this “brushless” package is to be able to go with two “6 Packs” – RC Car packs.

These packages are helpful for folks growing from cars to planes, or those who look to getting stuff via their LHS; also is a work around for the 8 cell trap.

I have multiple 6-cell packs of Panasonic 3000mAh NiMH's, also HRSC2600's, that I can use as well. I also have a 12-cell pack of CP1300's that I built for an HPI RS4 car with a 1010/2Y (he he he..) that are good for 30A..

I tested with 12 Panasonic 3000mAh NiMH's - I'd say they're pretty close to a generic car pack. Pack was pretty much empty, just pulled off the shelf, and had 800mAh put into it when I stopped the charge and performed these tests. Used a Jeti 40-3p ESC, the original style designed for the Jeti motors..

APC 13x8E 7600RPM 42A 12V 500W
APC 12x8E 8000RPM 38A 12.2V 460W

Your data and calcs with the revised Kv from the Jeti site are in very good agreement.

Thanks again Andy for your 45-3 data. Went a head and put one in a Carl Goldberg Eagle II for a friend.

Before bolting the motor in place I ran it up with a 12x8E and spinner on 12 and got 31amp, 19.9 volts, & 406watts via a Jeti Gold 40-3P. A bit lighter on amps than I expected; can go to a 13x8 if it lacks at all on climb.

Neat motor mount. That should be plenty of power for a trainer, and it looks like a bolt-in conversion.

I got the mount from my LHS; its by Maxx Products (MPI -- http://www.maxxprod.com/mpi/mpi-29.html#ACC3820 ).

It’s a nice Plug and Play solution for a 40 trainer (maybe an AT as well) allowing BEC with the 3 servos & 12 cells. I’ve read that the 40-3P can be pushed to 14 cell, don’t use the BEC.

Yeah, these days you can have success just bolting up a motor and adding some cell.

My Jeti's won't arm on cell counts higher than rated. I tried to use one on a car on 14 cells - would never arm. On 12, worked fine.
