In my personal project to read the entire set of Flight magazine, I'm up to 1946.
The war is over and here is a link to the first page of a great article showing the state of the modelers art. neat photos. http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchi...0-%201294.html |

Dent "Dainty Diesel"
Link to photo of 1946 model parasol monoplane designed and built by Derek Dent; with a span of 42 in and an all-up weight of 18 oz. The power unit is a Frog "100" compression-ignition engine of 1 cc.

Awesome looking plane. Any more info on the "Dainty Diesel"? I didn't find anything on Outerzone.
Thank you for your efforts, |

I'd be prepared to bet it was a "one off" and there are no (published) plans. Given that we know the span and the fuselage is obviously rounded and most likely planked and that the vertical tail surfaces are clearly visible it wouldn't be too hard to draw up a plan which would produce a "look alike".

Sundancer, I assume you are correct here. I have done some searches and can not find any reference to either the Dainty Diesel or Derek Dent as a model airplane personality on the web. Perhaps someone else will have an idea.
Building a modern version of the old plan is more fun than designing a new plan from an old picture. I am mostly just curious to see the plan and add it to my someday list. It could be a good subject to go back search for a similar published plan. I'll retry some more searches with the keywords of "rounded planked fuselage" and "parasol wing" Thanks, |

Here is a link to the first page of a 1948 historical article in Flight magazine that describes a 1907 model airplane contest...
the first such contest held in England... ever. http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchi...0-%201978.html It was won by Mr. (later Sir) Alliott Verdon-Roe (as in later AVRO Aircraft Co.) |

sanders
Emery boards.
Cheap, readily available, little sanders. Also small metal files (tool and die) come in handy. |
