Infra-Red Thermometer for Helis

Anyone else have one of these non-contact thermometers? I've seen them mentioned once or twice in other forums. They seem to be ideal for us heli fliers who need to know how hot the ol' motor is getting. I just got one of the less-expensive Raytek ones and it seems to work like a charm. The one I have is set to give the most accurate readings on surfaces with an emissivity of 0.95 so it will work best on darker coloured matt surfaces. It would be necessary to paint a spot on the motor if it is shiny.

If you get one with a laser aiming device it makes a terrific cat toy.

Hi Rob,
where did you get your Raytek?
Is it the one with the laser?
Good price?

Infrared Temperature Measurement

Rob,

This may also be an alternative unit manufactured by Omega, OS540. Has Circle or dot laser targeting and a 2C accuracy. Same 0.95 emissivity spec. But costs $85.00 USD.

Try this link to the W.S. http://www.omega.com/ppt/pptsc.asp?ref=OS540&Nav=temj04

Regards,
Roger

I met a heli pilot this weekend who seemed real pleased with this. http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...%5Fid=22%2D325

$50.

He was checking servo temps too. His plane is a Miniature Aircraft X-Cell.

Actually, I don't know where I got it from! Someone I know ordered two - one for each of us. It may have been http://www.officeshops.com/hobby/mt4.htm

Yes, I have the one with the laser pointer. The ST20 you plan to get Lorenzo looks to be a model above the MT4.

I didn't know Radio Shack had one. Lowest price I've seen. Practially a hobby price!

Well I've already ordered the ST20 but now I'm starting to wonder why I did at all as my T-Maxx, Shuttle Zxx and the Excel are both put up for the winter.
I was getting it to monitor the Voyager which seem to run a lil' hot to me but now I'm selling all my voyagers and the Logo 10 setup does not even get warm enough to be concerned.
