New Lead Sled!! MB-339


Well this will be my first true PSS glider. I have have some fast EPP warbirds but this one should leave them behind. I cannot wait to fly it at the MWSC next week. Hopefully this will be just a start for me and PSS gliders.
The fuse is glas from my own plug and mold. The wing is balsa over faom with basswood where necessary and covered with Solartex. Tail is glassed balsa.

Well I planned on it being about 42 oz but only ended up at 34oz. This might allow me to fly in some lighter conditions but it will likely get a ballast tube added. The span is 48".

Heh. Kinda' funny. My first mold was of a little jet looking plane like that too. Here's a couple of pics. I think yours actually looks better though.

Great scratchbuild effort! Looks nice. Hope you have a contrasting color on the bottom, that puppy looks like it's built for speed!

I do not have any plans to produce this model. If you want one like this I suggest that you get ahold of Dan Sampson at flybyu@dslextreme.com
He might be able to hook you up. He made the fuse for TFLG that showed up in another thred.
For now I will be sticking with producing EPP warbirds.

I thought that fuz looked familiar--- nice build job-- but it won't be a "lead sled" until you get about 3 more pounds in it!!!

NIce job on the plane, but I will agree with Henry and Timmig. When I saw the caption I was excited to read something in the 90-120 ounce category. your plane looks great none the less. Good work.

Mike, I'll be bringing my BD5 that I got in trade for the Tsunami I built for Tim. Its in the 85-90oz range. Just perfect for my local slope and "just in case" for the MWSC. Hopefully we can do some sled driveing at the constest. I'll be building one like yours soon. I have a fuse waiting for me from Dan S. to pick up at the PSS festival. See ya at the MWSC.

Well after a close encounter with Jack and a dirt nap the MB-339 is ready to fly again. I made a new fuse. 7 layers of 4 oz and some 10 carbon on the sides. The original wing was balsa sheeted with hardwood LE and survived the crash. It now is covered with 2 layers of 4 oz. Weight is mid 40's with room for ballast.

Looks good. Hard to believe that it is still only in the mid 40's with that much glass in the fuse and two layers on the wings. My typical build is 3 layers of 6oz cloth in the fuse and one layer on the wings and my planes still end up being 90oz.
