November 8, 2014 Club Fly-In

We had beautiful flying conditions at the field today with light winds, cloudless blue skies, and pleasant temperatures in the 50s.

The 9 members and 1 guest who took advantage of the fine conditions were Art, Pat, Jerry, Ross (with friend of the club Chris), Ruben, Lee, Juan, Gary and Marc.

First Person View

First Person View (FPV) is a method to fly a radio controlled aircraft by watching a screen that receives streaming video from an on-board camera.

Pat, always on the cutting edge, was the first club member to experiment with FPV using his Spy Hawk. Last week, Daren brought out his FPV multi-rotor but the winds proved a little too strong.

This week Ross and Chris brought out their FPV rigs. Ross is flying a Hobby King Sky Eye fixed wing. Chris is flying a DJI FC40 quad-copter. In addition to first person view video transmission equipment, each aircraft also has 3-axis stabilization and a GPS with "return to home" functionality.

Cool stuff! And well within a hobbyist's budget.
