Question
Where & what to fly around Auckland
Hi there,
As it seems, I'll be around Auckland early next year. Now, I'd like to take a plane or two with me (I mainly fly gliders), and I was wondering if there are any good spots around Auckland that you can recommend - and also what type of plane would be best suited for the conditions. Also, are there any special regulations that I need to know in NZ? (Frequencies, insurance, whatever?) Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Greez, Leo |

Have a look on this NZ forum.
http://www.parkflyers.org.nz/modules/newbb/ Theres a few RC friendly parks & some Auckland RC clubs, but many just fly at local parks or schools. Not sure if thats what you want with a glider ? South Auckland has the primo dedicated flying sites Ak club for gliders... http://www.aucklandsoar.org.nz/ If you fly 2.4Ghz you be OK , legally. Insurance...well thats up to you. Many Auckland parkflyers fly without insurance . If you join a club, you'll get insurance cover. Legal old school freq's http://nzmaa.org.nz/frequencies.htm |

Ambury is the place for gliders in Auckland. We have a 1000ft ceiling there. There are a couple of parks you can fly as well but are limited to 400ft.
There's also plenty of slope sites for windy days. Get into contact when you get here - details on the AK Soar web page, or pop into Ambury on a Sunday. Andrew |

hi there,
Sorry for not responding for a week, but I wasn't home. Anyways, thanks alot for your answers. So, as it seems, parkflyers are a better choice than gliders (I can't drive and Ambury is a bit off). no problem, I'll go with that then (probably easier anyways since I'd liek to get the whole rc stuff in my regular suitcase). Another thing: Are small multicopters okay as well? greez, Leo |
