My new APM Mini 250 Quad

Well I finally managed to get her built, not flown a modern mini before, a long time ago I home madea 150 quad but good micro motors were scarce then

APM Mini on a Goodluckbuy QAV250 frame

Mini APM 250 Quad Maiden (3 min 29 sec)

I was very impressed with the speed, even in stabilised mode with only 60% throttle she was nearly out of orienation range before I had a chance to slam the brakes on

First two batteries I set my TX timer for 5 minutes
After having now topped up the batteries I found they only used 560mah in 5 mins, that gives me an easy 9 minutes flight time on the 1500mah even with the headlights on , all up weight with Mobius and well everything is 480 grams

Now with gyro adjusted tilt on the FPV camera so I can see where I'm going and not just see the grass

I'm sure the idea isn't original, I think others may have already done it, I just haven't seen any myself

It's very simple really, some flight controllers such as the APM and Copter Control have outputs that could be used for the old school camera gimbals which used servos (rather then the current brushless gimbal designs)
These outputs can still be used so all I did was tap into output 11 and set it up on the PC program to be camera tilt, I used a tiny Blue Arrow micro servo hot glued to the frame a 1mm hole in the side of the camera case and a 1mm rod to connect the servo arm to the camera (bent to the right length)

Actually I cut the rod fitted it to the camera and servo then I glued the servo in place so I could get the camera angle correct whilst the srvo was centred (didn't have any proper screw on servo rods to adjust afterwards)

You could of course glue a horn to the back of the camera rather than drill a hole

I do find have the camera stay level a great benefit, I've not flown a mini before but I used to struggle with my 450 quad in full forward as all I could see was the ground

Ah so this is the gimbal you were telling me about when I spoke to you on the phone the other day. Makes more sense now I have seen your videos. Nice idea!!

Hi! Can you post the screenshot of pid values for your setup? I am going to sacrifice more time and get my setup with apm working, but nobody believe it's a good idea.
Do you have problems with alt hold mode? It's the most annoying thing now, as most of the pid values are flyable.

Who is John Powers ?
How did you go with Compass calibration ? I got the same flight controller and I find the compass has very high calibration numbers (above 400)
