SVSS Archives - How to Use

The SVSS Archives is an online storage facility that allows us to share documents, newsletters, photos, videos, past contest postings, and club memorabilia. As a club member we hope you contribute pictures, videos, and more. Files in the Archives are stored on Google Drive making it possible for anyone connected to the Internet to access them. Most files in the Archives can also be downloaded to your own computer (desktop, tablet, or smartphone). Note that as of the date of this post some folders are empty and waiting for their first files.

We can create new Archives folders if you have a need. It is also possible to give selected SVSS members the ability to directly add and remove files on a folder by folder basis. So, for example, if you're an SVSS officer and you want to maintain your own sharing folder we can set this up.

How To Use the Archives

To connect to the Archives click the SVSS Archives link . This should launch your Internet browser and display a page that looks similar to the example below.

To view the contents of an Archives folder simply click a folder. This will then display the folder contents which can include files and/or more sub-folders.

To see the full file names click the List View control in the upper R.H. corner of your browser window.

To view a file (i.e. picture, video, PDF, .doc, XLS, and many other types) click the file and a viewer will launch inside your browser for the appropriate file type.

To download a file in the Archives first click to view the file, then click the "Download" icon at the top of your browser window. Note that some files may have download rights intentionally disabled.

Need help?

If you have questions please either make a post here or directly contact the Archives Guy (currently Chris B.).

How to Contribute Files

The best way to contribute files to our Archives is by emailing or mailing the files to the Archives Guy.

If you want to contribute hard copy items like pictures then we need to find a volunteer who can donate some time to scan them. Either post your request here, send an email to the club list, or contact the Archives Guy for help.

If you are a club officer or if you have a special need we can grant you direct upload access to one or more Archives folders. Contact the Archives Guy for assistance.

Looking for volunteer "scanners"

  • Tom Ball has a nice SVSS photo album with many hard copy pictures of the early days of SVSS.
  • Ron Kucera has a photo album of a pre-2000 era SVSS contest.

These could all be posted in our Archives but they need to be scanned into files first. If you have a computer and a decent scanner your help would be greatly appreciated.

1989-2002 newsletters uploaded

I just uploaded a complete sequence of SVSS newsletters that span from our club's founding in 1989 through 2002. These issues were all tracked down and scanned or electronically converted by Joan and Neil Nolte. This effort took Joan and Neil many many hours that they volunteered for our benefit. Thank you Joan and Neil, your work is very much appreciated!

To view these issues: Follow the instructions in the first post of this thread, then click the Newsletters folder where you will find a separate folder for each year.

Chris B.

P.S. Note that all SVSS newsletter issues from 2003 on are available on the SVSS website by first clicking "News" then "Newsletters."

I just uploaded the photos used for the 2014 awards banquet. Unfortunately the viewing order was not preserved, so these will appear somewhat disorganized.
