3D Printed EDF Flying Wing

Guys,

We've been working on 1.5 metre span 3D printed flying wings at work as an internal project for teambuilding and learning new design techniques. We started with a glider made entirely of ABS plastic , and have now moved on to an EDF version made of ABS combined with carbon fibre (see photos below).

Here's a video of the test flight of the EDF version:

AMRC UAV powered flight (2 min 25 sec)

And of the glider:

FDM-printed fixed wing UAV (0 min 56 sec)

Original thread on these prototypes is here in the UAV section:

Thanks for looking!

This has to be possibly the most BAD-ASS looking plane I think I've ever laid eyes on. Just awesome.

Ha ha thanks very much.

I guess that's at least one of our project goals ticked then...

Very cool Dr G. Do you have any specs you can share, like flying weight, wing loading, stall speed, etc? Particularly interested in what Cl_max you achieved with this design.

I'll post the case study when it's approved. Flying weight was about 3.5kg., max. thrust about 2.5 kg. IIRC flying speed was about 20-25m/s, min. launch speed about 12 m/s. Span was 1.5m.

Thanks.

Your link in the other thread goes to an error404 for some reason.
I don't know if you've thought about licensing this for production, might be something to think about before it gets copied.

Thanks!

It's just a prototype, not a production ready article.
