I believe my stock prop was labeled 7x7 on hub.
Manual says it’s 7x6.5 |

Current version is EFX Racer also https://hobbyking.com/en_us/durafly-...E&gclsrc=aw.ds
EFXtra has the clipped wing. |

In my EFXtra (clipped wing version), I run an APC black 7X7 with a GensAce 4S 2200 45C.
The stock esc (which I run) is rated for 60 amps. On a fresh pack off the charger, on the bench it pulls 70 amps. I assume my abused packs and the fact the prop unloads in flight, allow me to run full throttle for extended periods without any issues, so far... |

Old packs with high(er) internal resistance will definitely act as a current limiter. I first used old Tattu 2300 3S packs on my EFX Racer - tested on the ground I only got 29A after a very short initial burst at around 50A. I replaced them with new Rhino 50C 2200 packs (still 3S) - those gave a steady 67A ... a huge difference in power.

I've been surprised that my F-27 turned out to be faster than my EFXtra and EFX Racer(NE - new edition.. There is no official designation to differentiate from the old one.. The old one though is getting so old afaic the assumption should be that when somebody says "EFX Racer", they mean the new one. Which, to repeat, is %100 identical to the EFXtra, just with the longer main wing... And OK, color.. )
As I mentioned before, I like the stock 4S black prop because I can switch between 4S and 5S without having to think about or do anything. I do have an 80a ESC in my F-27, but I was wondering if an F-27 motor(2000kv) would fit in the EFXtra.. Then I guess I'd have to put in an 80a ESC(I have a spare..) I wonder though if maybe the EFX planes have less cooling, and that could get me into trouble. On a hot day the F-27 motor gets pretty hot on 5S... Ultimately though I am perfectly happy with the EFX planes, bone stock, and on 4S even. |

You shouldn't be ... the airframe has less frontal area & drag. I mentioned my old Projeti wing before - that uses the same 3S packs as my EFX Racer, and they are very similar in speed. But ... the Projeti does it with under HALF the power (4.7x4.7 prop and around 30A static, vs 8x6 prop and 67A static).

4S to 4S on the same day in the same conditions they are pretty close - and actually I think the EFXtra may have been faster so far(not sure, but the differences were not huge..) But on 5S the F-27 seems faster. So to be more specific I guess - I am also surprised that the F-27 is actually that much faster on 5S than on 4S - previously, subjectively it just seemed barely maybe a little bit faster, but louder and the motor got hotter. I guess there is an aerodynamic wall in there somewhere which allows the F-27 to push through to higher speeds on 5S than the EFXtra, but on 4S they are still close. Also, I may have just had significantly more wind on the day I got my top speed on the F-27(237kph...) I need to test my EFXtra on 5S on a similarly windy day. I don't care about being super scientific about it - but it is kind of neat to see the comparative speeds. That said, I don't expect the EFXtra will hit 237 on a similar day to the one I flew the F-27 on. Maybe in a major storm ha ha...
The Rare Bear on 4S with a 9x9 was also not as fast as I expected (same goes for my MPX Funracer) - barely hitting 200kph iirc. It is however a bit more thrilling to fly than the F-27 - because it feels more substantial - and a bit scarier. The F-27 is VERY easy to fly... Point and shoot... The Funracer is terrifying in comparison...(The RB and FR are VERY pitch sensitive in comparison...) |

Pardon me fellas, believe I may have caused this mix up of models. Thanks to Herrsavage and Evan D for keeping it straight.
I’m amazed at the performance of this plane. But have serious reservations about flying it again as a powered plane, too dangerous. If I miscalculate or have a mechanical issue during a pass, there is no way I could get out the way in time. Will have to change my tactics and fly from a protective low spot in dunes. Set a second camera on beach to catch passes. Again, thanks to Herrsavage for suggesting this plane and keeping me informed of differences. It’s been an incredible experience flying it so far. I purchased the EFXtra which includes the slope cone and FPV canopy, clipped wing. Also purchased the longer wing just to have and try. There appears to be little differences, just the tips, airfoil and shape feels and looks to be be the same. |
