Bought a brand new KYOSHSO ENDOPLASMA 16-TURN motor, Switching Diode and Half Moon Clam Shell Motor Mount and a new GREAT PLANES Electrifly 50 ESC. Oh, yes, got some spare 5 X 5 Brushes for after 100 flight maintainence

Will start on the electronics tonight and run the motor in the model for the first time!

I will try out both the 2.5:1 ratio and the 3.8:1 ratios with several Prop size/ptich combos.

This is a good plan as I'm doubting the 3.8:1 12x8 combo will produce enough pitch speed to fly this plane well since its wing is so much smaller and full symetrical besides.

Your very likely gonig to have to trade off thrust for pitch speed. Your current setup has about 50 mph pitch speed, you should be looking for more like 60 or 65 mph to fly that plane well. 3:1 with a 10x7 should be a good combo.

Dean,

Thanks for your suggestion! The weight is real light on this model and yes, it has less wing span plus it has FULL SYMMETRICAL WING SPAN such that one needs to keep up the speed unlike other wing design.

The Dry weight of the Air Frame with the Tail feathers and wing assembly is right on 2 lbs. so, tonight I will weigh all power/control electronic components and let you all know what is the Final Flight Weight!

I have been thinking about you success on the other plane - please keep us updated. This looks like a great model and for $70 buck you can't build it for that!

Mike,

Thanks for your comments and yes, indeed the $69.99 price all ready built, covered and ailerons, rudder, and elevator all installed and hinged for you!

I have estimated that my MACH-I has a total investment of less than $250.US using the Brush motor and used Heli Brush ESC with slow start.

I will keep you all posted and will post details of weight, costs, AMP/WATT draw and most important performance and flight characteristics using this Electric Motor setup!

I would expect your setup will add about another 30-32 oz or so for about 65 oz RTF.

I had inputted a higher weight for my above calculations which gave a higher 24 mph stall speed.

With a 65 oz RTF weight, stall drops to 21 mph, enough lower that the 12x8 / 3.8:1 combo " might " be ok.

Parts Layout!

All of the necessary and important parts layed out for quick assembly

Even though the ESC came with the diodes and capcitors, I opted to use the capacitors that the Motor came with and used the diode in the TEAM ORION package since it's the same diode used in my SKY RAIDER MACH-I setup!

Silver band connector side of DIODE goes to the Positive (+) terminal of the motor. In other words, even though the Motor has a label showing (+) I connected the Silver band side to the Negative (-) terminal of the motor since the motor needs to rotate reverse for gearbox setup.

Therefore, where ever you have to have the Positive (+) of the ESC connector at the specific terminal at the motor in order for the motor to rotate for GEARBOX setup, that's where the Silver Band needs to go!

Motor / ESC complete!

Motor / ESC assembly complete!

Notice the Silver Band of Diode going to the Positive ESC connector/terminal (White wire).

Lube those Motor Bearings!

Don't forget to lube the front and rear bearings of the motor!

I used to use Mystry Miracle Oil in the past but, I used the specific OIL that KYOSHO recommends for these motors

Carlos, this project is entirely your fault; I saw the Raider II in the LHS a couple of weeks ago after reading your thread on the Raider I. I could not resist it.

I first intended to get some GP3300's, but decided to try it with two of the Lipo packs I have for my smaller planes. The problem is, with this light equipment, its difficult to get the cg far enough forward. So I ended up with the Lipo's mounted to the FRONT of the firewall. The Endoplasm is as far forward as possible and the servos and Rx are ahead of the cg. It is still slightly tail heavy.

It is geared 4.6:1, 10x8E prop, two 3S1P tanic 1500 packs in parallel. Pulls about 300W static. AUW is 3.75 lbs; which is more than a pound lighter than the suggested glow weight!

I flew it today for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It leaves the ground in abt 20ft and has plenty of power for simple aerobatics. I flew rather sedately with some full power, and the motor and batts were barely warm after 10 min flights. The Lipo's took about 80% to recharge.

The only problem is, if I start pushing it harder, the Lipo's will probably get overworked. I need some heftier batteries.

Has the C50 esc been dependable? Somewhere I came across a thread split betweeen how reliable these units are. Perhaps it was a bad batch? Seems like the least expensive 50 Amp ESC available.

Wow! I am really glad your MACH-II flew well ! Yes, I am known to inspire or realy get people to hate me. Like I say when I pass by the BIG BOSS floor (The NO FLY ZONE), either you get a Pat on the back or a nose bleed

Super light weight with those Li-POLYs! Yes, if you are pushing 40+ AMPS for good performance flight then, I would add another one in parallel to take the AMP load.

Carlos
