Anyone Check Out 3D Robotics Iris+ ?

Just came across this article:

http://gizmodo.com/new-autonomous-3d...r-y-1631694870

and according to this video it has a auto follow feature:

The IRIS+ Personal Drone - Available Now! (2 min 15 sec)

Doesn't look like the Plus model is on their website yet:

The follow feature has been in beta for a while now and it looks like they're finally advertising it as a finished product! Yay!!! I hope swarm mode makes its debut next!

I thought it was interesting that the article said the follow feature will be open source. I wonder how quickly other manufactures would adopt it. Also why would they give that away when its a key to selling their own products?

I just noticed the IRIS+ is available on the 3dr website so I decided to call & talk to them. It now has led lights on the legs, 11" props, different legs, different arms, the telemetry is in another spot. The upgrade kit will be available in 3-4weeks & will include new 925kv motors from the previous 850kv motors. 3DR will send everyone an email who has purchased in the past to alert them of the upgrade. Pictures are available on there site.

Too bad they didn't move the green light to where the telemetry was. Here is a pic from the site that shows the new location of the telemetry:

Better off to buy the quad kit and install the Pixhawk in that, Iris is pretty limited for lift. The green light is an arming indicator, starting out blue and turning green when everything is happy. It has almost nothing to do with conditional status once in flight. Pixhawk is not a DJI clone.

Follow feature is great but a friend of mine made the noob mistake of buying one & the quality looks to be pretty bottom of the barrel with all the cheapest components possible (1st generation platform) & customer service wasn't up to par either, actually got quite a bit of attitude when he contacted the seller about some broken parts. Just sayin :BEWARE:

I am still trying to find out the REAL differences. I called 3DR and they say the Arm Length is the same and do not know the weight.

I would like to know a direct comparison:
  • Arms Length, Weight, How are they different?
  • 4in1 Differences
  • If the body is the same do we have to drill holes in it for the antenna?
  • LEDS Voltage?
  • We know the battery is better.
  • What are the new prop sizes?
  • We know the legs are longer
  • An itemized comparison list would be good otherwise we a just buying LEDS and new battery.
