how to get nigelsheffields lua scripts for Taranis to work.

http://rcsettings.com/index.php/view...13-lua-scripts
Scripts are here search for mine with nigel. If you like them please let me know by saying thanks so I feel appreciated and then I might make some more lol!

This for discussing using my scripts and possible changes you might want to make,if you read this first post carefully you should be able to get them working, I should point out that I had lots of help to get started and converted official opentx altitude lua to start me off as I could not face trying to learn the whole lua script language in one bite so thanks to everyone who helped me,.

This is not for technical discusion on programming as I am no expert still.
For that please go here and talk with the guys who helped me and If you are a programmer go and help out if you want to!

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=2180477. A technical discusion on programming in lua for Taranis.

Other resources

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...ilebasic?pli=1 official opentx lua docs with everything you need to know including instructions to get the lua scripts installed and all available functions to use in the scripts. These are updated regularly and are very concise. You need to read these if you want to get more into lua ,they are indexed too so you can find this info but I will leave this open for discusions anyway.

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=2178865 discus opentx 2.0 and beyond

I have had a number of requests to set up a discussion on using my lua scripts and any updates I do and new scripts.
I will try to explain here, in the first pages and then have some FAQ list as they arise.

Instructions.

Others can also be discussed but I obviously won't be able to answer all questions on them!

I will assume that your have already got the latest version of otx2 and have lua scripts enabled in the menu, if not then do so and down load f/w again and burn to tx.

Then you have already made folders right? If not you need to create them on your SD card both on tx and in opentx if you want to use simulator.
SCRIPTS/mixes ...........these are enabled from lua drop down menu in tx and simulator use page to scroll through mixes etc to get there
SCRIPTS/functions ..........enabled from SF page from a function.
SCRIPTS/BMP.........put any BMP files for scripts here.
SCRIPTS/modelname NOTE THIS ONE IS NOT REALLY MODELNAME you need to name it your exact model name for the model you want the telemetry scripts to work in and put the telem scripts here!!!!!!!! Note no spaces allowed. This seems to be the biggest stumbling block and there are changes coming to make telem scripts install similar to mixes but for now....

So far all my scripts apart from the sequence caller are telemetry scripts.
To run telemetry scripts you rename each lua telem1 through to telem7 and place them in a folder scripts/modelname with modelname being the exact name of your model.
Then just use telemetry pages and scroll through as normal pages.

Then sequence caller can be used as function script or model script, so directory is scripts/mixes or scripts/function.
Select them from lua page for model script or from SF to use in combination with switches.

NOTE , you can edit the scripts with a simple text editor NOT word, so right click and open with text editor.

Thanks! Your scripts are really appreciated. I used them for the first time today and it was so neat hearing my launch height right after I leveled off at the top. At the same time it was kind of sad to hear the numbers . I have a delamination on my DLG wing so I am trying to take it easy on launches until I get some fiberglass(someone is sending me some scraps). This vario does seem like it gives much lower heights than my open altimeter and spektrum altimeter. I am sure they are all off some though so who knows which is correct(if any). It is still useful for relative height.

The vario I think is off so the script you are using could be edited easy, where it says something like alt= (alt_id) add 1.25 to get it to add 25% if you then get same results as the spektrum then you are there!
Once we have established the correct amount to add I will Change the uploaded script, or perhaps upload a version with a correcting method. This would tide us over till either frsky fix the thing or open tx adds some adjustment.
Thanks for your comments, it is nice to know someone likes what I have done!
I think most of my scripts are gonna be for dlg and gliders so will be heavily biased towards altitude and time tasks/data crunching recording. Maybe I should tag it for dlg and glider in the description?

I'll see how it pans out, probably not get that much interest from the opentx users in general so if that is the case I will aim this forum more at dlg Taranis fans! But if there is a lot of interest in other stuff then I am happy to go with the flow!

I have a feeling the offset will vary by temperature. As you go up the temperature changes too so a single offset might not work. I worry that the value that is off needs to be part of some other adjustment with temperature that might not be able to be applied after the altitude calculation. I don't claim to understand how the vario calculates anything though... it is all guessing on my part .

I wonder if FrSky knows about this? Maybe they think it is perfect. We probably should send some feedback their direction.

I just did a test with my openaltimeter mounted inside and the frsky high accuracy vario inside. Well... It was not really inside per say... there was a big bump in the canopy where I used scotch tape to keep air from getting in the canopy because it was about 1/4" open with the openaltimeter resting on top of the frsky vario. It was air tight when I got done though . I did some easy launches (I didn't want to stress the delam too much) and I did catch a thermal on what I think was the second toss.

I now need to get a graph of both side by side somehow. I have the Taranis log but now I can't find my usb adapter for my openaltimeter to get the logs from it. I will keep looking for it. <sigh>

I opened a discussion on frsky own forums.
No reply apart from some very odd talk about football?

Agreed on the temperature thing, from what I've learn latey any fix we do with offsets even percentage on a curve will only be part right, the problem needs fixing in the vario.
I bought 3 high precision ones too , should have just got the cheaper ones!
They are OK as varios to indicate lift and for fun and improving throw technique and a vague idea of height but I am not happy about them being so inacurate!

nigelsheffield, Any chance the issue at the url below is related to the two of your lua scripts? Now that I think about it the first one started right around the time I added the first script. The second one started right around the time I added the second lua script. Maybe it is just a coincidence. I am using the DLG game and the one that lists the list of flights and heights.

Fixed, sorry!
Needs 2.0.10 and note the gvar use, I doubt you will use gvar6 fm8 already but this needs it and you need to set it to -1000 to zero it.
It should be good for a 3 hour flight with a resolution of 5 seconds, not sure it the timer1 actually goes up that far, I made it so that if the flight is less than 99 mins it will just display in minutes, if it goes over that it will switch to hours mins seconds.
This is all limited like this by the need to use a gvar as permanent storage, once SD card access is pos there should be no limit in resolution or Max flight times.
But anyway if you can even get anywhere near 99 mins I will be VERY impressed!
No cheating though , if you leave gvar at 0 you will already have a great personal best!

I'd like to create a LUA program for audible announcements of flight modes and for other functions like rates, controlled by switch positions.

Are there any function calls like this:

model.get.current.flightmode()

model.get.Value(switch: SA)

playFile("/SOUNDS/en/fltmode1.wav")

Is there any benefit or problems that could occur if you check the lua box in the build area of the download for opentx?
Thanks
