Cold weather fliers: check this out

My wife came home from shopping the other day and said "I got you some new gloves". "Thanks darlin" I said. She says "I think you will really like these for flying". She procedes to put them on her hands and they are MITTENS ! This looks bad. Then she peels back the ends of the mittens to expose here bare fingers from about the second knuckle to the tips, like practice puching gloves. This is getting better. "Wait till you see this" she smiles. Then she takes the end of the mitten and folds it back over the fingers making it a mitten again. Then she takes the tip of her covered thumb and peels over the end of the mitten, exposing the end of her thumb.. "Honey, you can fly and just get your thumbs cold "!!!!!

What a deal ! They carry the Coleman label and are available at Wal Mart. All fold-back features use velcroe type stuff to hold in place as mittens.

This evening I tried them..... only my thumbs got cold during one 4 minute flight at 14 degrees above zero.

Hi folks

Sassy Cat: Yeah, she's the best.

Andy: Hmmmmm , crack the window just enough to poke the antennae out, heater on MAX, flight packs charging on the seat, hot coffee in a sippy cup. Dare I ask Sweetie to launch and retrieve planes ? Naw, maybe in a dream.

John: I just HAD to fly. Been grounded for days and starting to get the shakes.

Have a great day all

Al

Al, my wife would if I asked her to. Hell, she'd do it in the nude
if I asked her. Hehe...she even feels bad when one of my planes
wreck!

Try this mitt out.

Had mine for 2 years and it keeps my "mitts" nice and warm, plus it protects my tx from the rain as well.

I like my Isotoners!

I'd also like to try flying from my power moonroof with the heat on, but haven't had the nerve or the desperation, yet....

I have a pair of light cotton gloves that has the palm, index finger, and thumb coated with a light rubbery compound, this helps with the wind. These are good to just below zero.
I also have a pair of light leather driving gloves which are Gortex lined with a furry inner-lining. They do a pretty good job much below zero and give decent stick feel.
Let's face it, if you live where it's cold and fly outdoors in the winter your hands are going to get cold. After an hour at 20F below my hands are usually so stiff I could barely move my fingers, but I didn't drop the transmitter. Still, beats the heck out of working outside (or inside) anytime.

I found a similar type of mittens/gloves at Walmart a month ago except they weren't made by Coleman. They were made by "Start... something". The ones that I got had 3M Thinsulate. Certainly better than anything non-insulated.

Cost a whole $7/pair!

Last winter i drove to the flying field in my convertible (usually sleeps all winter) and no one was there. Loaded the 7x500's into the SSP400 pylone plane, put the top down - heater blasting - and flew from the car......landed just a few feet away and put the top up.

Think it just confirmed to Wifey how nutz i am about the hobby

I flew from the backseat "sitting" on the top of the seatback. It was alittle disorienting though....

I have one of those thermal Trans Mitts that your hands go inside. Modified it so my tray fits inside too - i usually tape one of those hand warmer packs on each side where your hand rests

I have seen similar gloves for sale in gun / fishing / outdoor shops in the UK, must admit that the idea of using them for flying never occured to me - must have seen them in the summer.
