Wow! I've never seen a successful phonetic rim shot before... Well done.
PS feel free to drop links to your builds and projects here.
With 38000+ views I suddenly want to keep the old thread going.
Just for the heck of it, photos of my friend Paul in '89 and our two stampes in mortal combat.
(no we did not hit, but scared the socks off of the spectators (and ourselves) a few times)

ciao

Another update.
Thought the Stampe ran out of gas but it was another problem.
The engine cut out every time inverted, so I broke down and pulled the tank.
It's just held in by clear aquarium silicone sealer.
After pulling, I could see that the fuel pickup line was suddenly an inch too long and was jammed sideways at the bottom/back of the tank. Couldn't move.
Pulled the brass tube forward an inch and the problem was solved.
(I replaced the brass tubes and pickup line while I had it apart)

The theory of what happened is:
i think in the crash a few posts back which knocked off the engine, pushed the brass tube back into the tank. The pickup tube is directly behind the muffler.
Next flight will prove whether I'm right.

A few things first:
Someone asked me what incidence and balance i used on my Stampe.
Just as an example, my friend Paul who also built one was sure it should be 0, 0, 0 on the upper wing lower wing and stab. He wound up making it balance 2" forward of the recommended cg and about 10 degrees of down elevator.
I went with the plans on mine and wound up with the balance point at the rear hold down bolt of the upper wing and a level elevator.

With the fuselage thrust line at 0....
Top wing 4 degrees positive.
Bottom wing 5 degrees positive.
Stab. 5 degrees positive.
CG: balances at the rear bolt of the top wing, I've flown as far back as the TE of the center section, but sometimes it takes 3 or 4 turns to come out of a spin.

anyway, we've test flown the Stampe with the repaired tank and it flew nicely inverted (for a Stampe) for as long as I wanted. I got so excited I accidentally flew out the tank and had to dead stick it in again.

Here tis....

Well, it had to happen eventually.
After a really good flight, the Stampe augured in.
I was making a turn from downwind to base leg and when I gave it right ailerons to level off, it just kept turning with no response until disappearing behind the trees.
Haven't taken it apart for inspection yet, but it doesn't look promising...

Brighto?

That's a bummer but from what I can see, it looks repairable. I did that to my Duster, broke the bottom wing in two and spliced it back together.

Greetings Colonel!
Long time no talk. We're just finishing up a tower hobbies Ryan STA conversion from electric to a Saito 45s. Hope to maiden this Saturday.

Alas! It's not repairable (easily, which is usually the only kind I repair) the plywood in the wings center section and here and there in the fuselage is separating into single plys. There's a slight possibility that's the cause but not likely.
Just like the others (Taube, stearman and tripacer) they lost signal in the same area and just nosed down with no response.
The odd part of it all...
none of my electrics have lost signal in the "death corner", only my nitro ships.
As with the other three, there is no sign of structural failure (including pushrods, servo mounts, etc.) and the radio performed a range check with flying colors and seems to be working perfectly.
We may never know.
For the time being, I'm limited to arfs (ugh) due to breathing troubles so now I have to find a nice ship for the Saito 180. I wish that red and silver 1/4 scale tiger moth was still around....

The Hangar 9 Tiger Moth is long gone but can you get this Phoenix Models version in the US?

Haven't found one yet, but it's a little bigger than I wanted anyway.
Would like to find something 75 to 80 inches.
Thanks for the link tho...

My pleasure.
I had a request to repost a vid from 1988 (ish) where we flew the Stampe without the top wing.
This was my first Stampe and had the OS 120 FS pulling it.
No sound, it was filmed with a super 8 movie camera.
I shoulda bought a lottery ticket that day!

Playing around with Rumble to check out how it embeds.
So here is a link to a 24" span model of the Stampe...
https://rumble.com/embed/va0ssv/?pub=9g4qf

apparently it's not going to give a thumbnail with the link.
so if anyone knows how to embed it and get one please let me know.
