Hi I am nearly finnished building my first SPAD rough Super decathlon look alike another 7 days and it should be in the air I have a OS 46 motor and are wondering if it will have enough power for a heavier plane. It was on a Thunder tiger super decathllon before it rock darted and ended up how all balsa planes do eventualy. Looked great flew great but not forgiving when spinning into the ground from base. Live and learn dont we

Yes It flies


Flew my spad decathlon today it was quite a handfull as I have not flown much glow ( things hapen much more quicker than with a glider or electric floater ) but I got it up and down in one pice will adjust the throws right back to reduce the twichynes of the over controling of new thumbs.
Over all Happy and will improve.

Just a Great Guy!
Sometimes I think I would like to get back into building spads. I've gone over to the dark side and there is just too much to do over here. Still got all the necessary materials and stuff but just lost the desire anymore for heavy plastic airplanes.

Yes that is right it is heavier but the thing I like is it is cheap $10 for a sheet of corro as compared to $300 for a new Thunder tiger Super Decathlon

I built the Spadet LC-40 trainer. The fuselage ended up weighing the same as my Hobbico SuperStar 40. And I could have built it lighter. The wing, however weighs considerably more than the Hobbico. I have flown 1/2 dozen trainer planes. The Spadet is by far the easiest to fly. Flys by itself.

I graduated long ago from trainers to more aerobatic planes. The type of planes I like cannot be made from Coroplast and gutter pipe and still fly like I want them too.

Hey Jim,

What about the CorreXtra or Chris's CC Edge 540 or his CoroTwister to name a few. Those seem to be similar to some of the planes seen over on the Darkside. Don't get me wrong, I had a EF 540 edge Profile, that I wrung out on a regular basis, and I have both the Slab and Phat Skeeter 30. I just haven't built the skeeters yet.

I still like building with foam and coro better. Hey, I was recently featured in Focal Point of MA for my Triple DPS, so I'll be building these heavy planes for some time to come, since I have gotten a little notoriety from Spads.

Glad to finally see some chatter going on in here....

Ah, the great debate between glow (spad) and electric. I tremendously enjoy both. If I had quicker access to a glow flying field, I'd probably fly glow more than electric, but currently the situation is the reverse.

One thing is true: when I want to build/fly glow it will be a SPAD. Nothing like getting a bunch of everyday materials into flight with some creativity. The next SPAD for me will either be a DDust or CoroRoo. I plan to break the 100 mph mark by a comfortable margin.

I'll post pics if I get some time to build....

I pranged my spad last weekend got to slow in circuit and stalled will be flying again on the wend with only 1 hour spent repairing last mishap with a balsa took 1 mounth to repair at the moment with my skill level on glow a corro is the best choice. .
