Phoenix Models 120mm Sea Hawk

Phoenix Hawk 120mm Maiden (0 min 0 sec)

I've made a few modifications from how it arrives, the most critical being doing away with the all moving elevators, I found them to have too much slop and poor centring.

I've fitted a DS-77 HST DSM 6730- 650 with an inlet ring instead of the full ducting.
Retracts are Eflite 120's on the mains and a hobbyking nose leg/retract.
Mains retract legs are Tamjets
YEP 180A 14S ESC
AUW TBC 7KG
100A
4400W (static)

The maiden flight was carried out today and all seems good. It flies very light and has plenty of power at 4400W from 13S 5800 Zippy Compact Cells. The second flight proved 7 mins are achievable.

The wings seem to be a little bouncy on the wing tube for my liking, so this will now be addressed.

For a 400 plane....GREAT!

I've just remembered I also didn't use the control rods, they were way too bendy. I've used M3 studding and clevises.
Anyone thinking of doing the elevator mod should also look to change the incidence. My plane is flying level with around 3mm of down trim.

The wings on my Preceptor fit the tube a bit loose too, I changed to a slightly oversize main tube, problem solved.

Nice test flight!!

What is the meter call out? Horizontal distance? Didn't seem to correlate with altitude. Anyway, cool telemetry setup whatever it is...

Its the first time I've used the GPS module, I think it was a delayed call out. The ground was 100m so in theory the highest point of flight was 600ft, but I'm not sure. One of the call outs was around 130mph. Its the flyby power readings that always interest me, the other week my 25lb P-59a running a DS-77HST 14S set up was doing passes at 17-25A with ease.

Hi Neil, That looks great, well done. Another winner!

Do you have a photo of the fan installation and what the inlet looks like?

Ok, that makes sense then if the ground was at 100.

I've had about 8 flights with the V2. I've had the V1 for a few years with great success. On occasion the V2 has lost audio which I can't figure out.

It was you and Aussie Gregg that showed me the light on this system, I never fly with out it.
