Way to much free time!

The Sport Cub S does use 2 aileron servos so one may be able to use them for both roll and flap duties, however I do not recommend this practice on any airplane. One is asking for wing-tip stalling by extending flaps to close to the wing tips (where an aileron is located). An alternate method that I use to slow down a plane is to add fixed flaps under the wing in their normal location. And leave the ailerons unchanged. $0.02.

Just came in from flying my sport cub S. I modified it with a brushless motor and 2c. She is a bit heavier than stock but still flies really nice. It’s been awhile since it’s been in the air. I really enjoy the way she flies!

HeyJWP,

While I never would have started RC flying had it not been for the Sport Cub S showing me that even I with my limited ability could actually fly one, I quickly got tired of messing around with 1S batteries and the 1S motor. I moved on to bigger planes with 3S systems, but I always wished I could modify my Sport Cub S to a 2S system. I never got around to doing it, so I commend you for your success. I bought a Champ S+ with its 2S system and GPS features thinking it should replace the Sport Cub S, but its GPS system did not do well for a lot of folks, and that made it a not-so-good choice to replace the Sport Cub S for new flyers. A year or so ago they came out with the Cessna 182 with its 2S system and SAFE Select, and I think this plane got it right as a replacement for the Sport Cub S for both new flyers and even older ones like myself who still likes the UMX planes.

Again, I commend you on your success at making my first plane even better than when it got me started..

Best wishes,
Dave Wile

Thanks for the kind words David! It did take a little doing but adding the 2s system was a smooth operation for the most part.
I never tried the Champ S+ but I donhave the Cessna182. That’s another great flying plane as well.
I don’t fly much with the 1s planes anymore either, although I do have a Champ and another sport cub S that’s still new in the box.
I’m hoping to use one of them to reach my wife to fly.

I recently purchased an "Estate lot " which included a sport cub s that was damaged that I am in process of repairing to be able to teach a friend and his 5 year old son to fly with .
I also purchased a new one for myself as I'm an addict to anything that flies and is cool. I plan on doing the 2S mod on New one and installing the UMX Timber lending gear/ main wheel set . Just need to figure out which components to get for doing the mod so it will have the best outcome ...

Hello Mororhead540.
To do the 2s conversion, you’ll want to use the brick (esc, receiver and servos) as well as the brushless motor and possibly the motor mount from the Timber as well.

I meant to do that....

Or just go and buy a Timber.

Crashnburn, also worth mentioning, I think Motörhead wants to convert his Sport Cub S into a brushless plane. It would fly very similar to the Timber but would be a bit faster as far as handling and landing speeds. Believe it or not, It would be a very different airplane in a lot of ways.

Trouble binding? Try lifting up the tail!

I can’t take credit for this... a friend suggested lifting the tail (to make the plane level) in order to speed up the binding process. It worked for me!
Great little sport flier and trainer for calmer days.
