Bridge teardown

Due to its extremely remote location, the Goog couldn't find any decent photos of the teardown. It's 3.5 miles from the nearest parking lot. Decided to try to bring it to the viewers at home, like they never saw it before.

The infamous pier was reinforced before separating the mane span. In the old days, it took a complicated shock absorber like this to absorb the pushing of an earthquake. The road would collapse. If someone died, so be it. The shock absorber would rip apart if the pushing force from the mane span was replaced by a pulling force.

The separation was revealed. Didn't make it when it was 1st separated in April, because surely someone would have made a decent picture. The mane span of a cantilever bridge needs no scaffolding for either construction or disassembly. It just flops in the wind above the water. Recovering the other spans requires building scaffolding.

Anyone who makes it this far would be disappointed to find the sidewalk closed .3 miles from last year's terminus. If you didn't go to the end last year, you lost. There was no way to get up close to the demolition. Should have jumped over. There wasn't a single bike cop, all day.

They were moving fast, removing a steel beam in just 20 minutes, meticulously recovering all the 1932 era steel for sale to China.

There goes your past.
