Fire Arrow Foil System / Maserati

Gio Soldini explains the "Manta" foil on Maserati. The basics are the same as the Fire Arrow except that they move the whole foil whereas the Fire Arrow Foil System uses a wand to move a flap on the main foil.
Their next ocean race: Gear, sails, appendages – everything has been checked and rechecked aboard Maserati Multi70 for the first ocean race of the 2016/17 season. The now-imminent RORC Transatlantic Race casts off on Saturday, November 26 from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

Fire Arrow...and Gitana 17

Fire Arrow was the first trimaran of any size to use a lifting foil on the daggerboard as part of a full flying foil system, successfully testing the system in July 2014. Last year the modified Mod 70 Maserati was fitted with a foil on her daggerboard by designer Guillaume Verdier. That same designer has just launched his masterpiece the 105' Gitana 17-the largest trimaran ever to be fitted with an adjustable daggerboard lifting foil! Gitana 17 is the first full size trimaran ever designed from scratch specifically to use the daggerboard foil. It is a revolutionary new way for trimarans to fly and was tested first on Fire Arrow in 2014 and with Guillaume's work on Maserati and now on Gitana the flying system will get its greatest test yet!

And for those interested in exploring this claim further there is an extensive thread on Sailing Anarchy's multi-hull forums called I think "Maserati on foils" or something similar. It is very entertaining reading and provides an interesting perspective on Doug Lord and his work.

Fire Arrow...and Gitana 17

It might be entertaining to some people but it is mostly uninformed comments by anonymous posters who have no clue what they are talking about. They use anonymity as a cover for their ignorance(like Roy Langbord does)..........

Fire Arrow...and Gitana 17

One of the most significant elements of the Fire Arrow Foil System in addition to the daggerboard foil and rudder T-foil are the UptiP ama foils* based on the discovery of a self-stabilizing foil by TNZ in 2010 or 11. Fire Arrow was the first trimaran of any size to use this type of ama foil.
In this video Guillaume Verdier discusses the ama foils for G17 and mentions that they are also based on the technology discovered by TNZ: https://www.facebook.com/yachtingwor...type=2&theater

Well worth watching and lots of detail!

*See the Fire Arrow UptiP ama foil in post 168 above.

Gitana 17 Foiling!

Gitana 17, using the same basic foil system as Fire Arrow has just started flying-the first 100'+ full flying foiler!! Congratulations to the designer Guillaume Verdier and the whole Gitana Team for a masterpiece designed from scratch to fly!

http://www.voilesetvoiliers.com/popu...lage-immediat/

comment from the magazine googletranslated:

"The first new generation Ultim to fly around the world, Maxi Edmond de Rothschild - Gitana 17 was able to prove this week off Lorient. The trimaran, designed by Guillaume Verdier and his team, showed agility in the Morbihan department in which it was launched on July 17 (Vannes). Next season for skipper Sébastien Josse and his team, on this maxi-trimaran: the Transat Jacques Vabre which will start on November 5, 2017."

Gitana 17 Foiling!

Here is a new spectacular Gitana 17 video-especially considering the similarity in her foil configuration with Fire Arrow which was four years+ ahead in using the foil system. Gitana, more so than any recent trimaran, has proven the viability of the foil system first used on Fire Arrow 4 years ago and first conceived for Fire Arrow 7 years ago! Guillaume Verdier, with his coincidentally similar foil system on Gitana 17, has proven the most revolutionary trimaran foil configuration ever.

Banque Populaire / Fire Arrow

The render shows a high aspect lifting foil on the daggerboard. Best I can tell no pictures of the main foil. Ama UptiP foils and rudder T-foils. There are now four trimarans worldwide using a lifting foil on the daggerboard: Maserati, Gitana 17, Banque Populaire and the first trimaran to use such a foil--Fire Arrow! The Fire Arrow Test Model pioneered the use of a daggerboard lifting foil, ama UptiP foils in combo with a rudder T-foil and now the major designers are finding the configuration to be worth investing millions of dollars to develop. Won't be long before we see under 20' single and /or doublehanders! And more RC tri's using the concept.
