Interesting Portable Photo Storage Device

I saw this and it looked like a good possibility for those of you that need to travel away from your pc and don't have a laptop. I have not tried one or haven't heard of anyone that has, so I can't comment on how well it works. I did have a camera made by that company a few years ago and it was of fairly good quality for low end stuff. Here's the link.

Wonder why they made it only USB 1.1. At that speed, 20GB
might take a while to download.

I agree with you both but MX if you had a 20gig memory card you wouldn't need it! Notice it doesn't support XP!
I travel with my laptop just for these kind of reasons, and with a 1 gig card for my 5MP Minolta and only 376 pictures you need to download. Four of my friends and I went to Kauai last year at this time and took 2000 pictures. You need to be prepared for the unexpected!

98FE either! Which is what I'm running on this computer, naturally. Oh well, I guess I could always use the kids' pc. Laptop is definitely the best way to go, but this thing looked interesting to me for some reason. I'm a gadget junky, though!

I haven't read the owners manual but it the description says "portable hard drive with built in card reader" Windows xp should recognize it just fine as a drive, you could then transfer the files to your hard drive.. very slowly with usb 1.1

the western digital one isn't too portable. AC powered... :-(

I saw a portable CD burner that claimed to be able to hook up to a camera, just another possible solution. I'll try to find the info, don't know where I saw it...

here it is

burns cds without a computer, would let you distribute pictures on the spot! just hand them a photo-cd! Pretty much unlimited storage, CDs are cheap.

Found these in the Detroit Free Press:
RCA Lyra RD2780, 20 gig hard drive, 3.5 color screen, slot for CF cards
Belkin $99 Media Reader, all common cards
Kanguru FC-RW , $199, all common cards
Epson P1000, hard drive w/3.8" screen
The tech author preferred the Kanguru FC-RW
