Build Log

ParkZone Sport Cub (51")

Flight Pack: GensAce 3S 2200mah 25C

This arrived at my door today, initial inspection of the contents in the box shows that this will be an easy build! Can't wait to get started after work.

Well that was easy. I completed the whole assembly in less than an hour last night. The hardest part about assembly was just CAing the flap servo to the wing. hahaha ParkZone really has this down to an art form. Very easy to assemble! I do wish they would choose better hardware in their kits though. I found already a couple of the screw heads wearing down after only two removals of the wing. I plan to maiden tomorrow morning, can't wait!

I was able to do my maiden this morning! What a great flying plane!!! I was really surprised at the rates for elevator when using the flaps at the recommended flap settings. I ended up with 35% mid and 50% land on elevator, but it all worked out great. I love having a plane like this, just take off in a couple of feet and cruise around having relaxing fun. Awesome!

I use a DX8 for those elevator settings. Here's my flap settings screen.

Those flap settings measured out to 12mm down on mid and 25mm down on land for the flaps themselves, as recommended by the manual.

Thanks, I'll transfer these to my DX9 to start with, thin go from there. I am still putting mine together ( waiting on decals from local shop), so I will be ready for maiden.

oh and in case its worth mentioning, I fly on low rates as per the manual which is 70 percent I do believe on rudder elevator and aileron. I will probably only use high rates in heavy winds, as I like to fly mostly just scale.

So I got to fly tonight in heavier winds and found that the flap settings probably could use some more adjustment... in the heavier winds (10mph+gusts) I found that the elevator offset was causing a bit more of a pitch change compared to flying in lighter winds

I maiden mine as well, it needs more down elev. I have #2 at 45% and #3 at 100%. Up in the air with the throttle cut, full flap applied it just glides around, I was holding some down elev. I got to do the same, AS soon as the wind dies down.

Got 4 flights in this morning. I increased my elevator to 55% on Land and it seems to act better now. I also purchased 4 3S 1300mah batteries from MotionRC.com, their Admiral brand. I was a little disappointed in their performance compared to the stock Eflite battery. They ran out of juice a lot quicker, I only got about 4 minutes of good flying time, landing after 5 minutes I was down to 3.79 per cell. I think I'm going to try some of my GensAce 3S 2200 25C or my 55C ones in this and see how they work out, I'd love to have more flying time.

I found flap setting for mine. I have all servo travel throws set to 150%.

Pos 1: 40%---20%

Pos 2: 100%----35%

Speed 2.0s

Used 2200 55c batteries and got it to hover.

Ok, so I flew today on my wonderful GensAce 3S 2200, both my 25C and my 55C (no real difference) and I didn't notice the extra weight at all compared to the 1300's, plus I got about 11 minutes flight time with moderate throttle and easy 9 minutes with lots of full throttle. Fantastic!!! No more 1300s for me! Why did I just go and buy 4 1300s... blah! :P
