Gorilla Launches

I managed to get a few slow-motion videos of FlyingGorilla83 launching during the finals of the IHLGF 2014. Enjoy!

launch low, fly high
That was rather instructive! There are a few power launchers also in that video clip, and their rotation was kinda slow as compared to the Gorilla. Toby has amazing power, although he needs some instruction in the stuff after the airplane leaves his finger in order to better optimize his launch height. My estimate is that he has at least 5m of launch height improvement gains with his existing launch method (and another few meters if his better optimizes his launch rotation). Rather amazing to think about!

Nice. I guess I start off on wrong foot. Is that California's sod?

Just think: I live in the same city with him.

He's a good athlete and a good competitor. All those years of soccer, golf and baseball have paid off!

Yours, Greg

Nice video. It looks like Toby uses his body as a counter-weight more than others.

Someday we just gotta get a retired world class discus thrower interested in this sport.... Just to see what's possible.

I agree Mr wiz. I was flying once and this college guy was practicing some sport. Not sure what but it was a 16# steel ball on a 30" wire with a handle and he whipped it around above his head. It went about 45 meters I would guess. He repaired the divot each time and drugvit back to do again. I talked to him. I almost asked him to launch my DLG but I pictured a ripped off wing. This guy was stout.

Toby's acceleration from the time he plants his right foot through release is ridiculous. That's where the power is coming from in my opinion. It's all very smooth but FAST.

Trouble is I can't learn new dance steps. I see that one fellow does the jump spin like my bad habit. I see Toby maintain s ground contact so he can use his core and legs for power. Looks like small steps at first and left foot forward first. I do it all wrong except I do let go too.

Skylar, Put me on the list for the step chart. Have Toby walk through white paint then into a tarp. Sell copies. Either actual size or just dimentioned drawings so we can paint replicas on the grass.
