Exercise software

After another software tweek, the interval training program calculated exactly the same distances as mapmywalk, so at least that part is using a dumb quantizing filter. Did 8 * 0.25 mile repeats with 60 second walking breaks. They went from a 7m4s pace in the steepest downhill to 7m28s in the last one, when I felt like throwing up.

Quite slower than when the software errored high & also 1 interval less. The free version of mapmywalk couldn't show any intervals because it has to graph all 11.3 miles in 790 pixels. Being able to do proper interval training, with distance based work periods & time based rest periods, by radio waves is a whole new world.

Reading reviews of the many competing exercise tracking gadgets lead to Have now run across many guys who went straight from high school to supposedly very lucrative careers in IT. Not sure exactly how successful they really are, but they tend to have the same things in common. They're all in 1 specific area: network consulting for large corporations. They're hired as contractors, set up websites, networks, passwords, & provide a higher level of customer support for the tools than a call center. They do all the standard e-commerce stuff that Microsoft advertizes shouldn't require hiring IT consultants. They normally work for the government.

They don't design computers or deal with electronics design. They don't design exercise tracking gadgets, UAV's, or image recognition algorithms. They're focused on the installation & support of other people's products. They might have to determine the amount of ventilation & power required by a server room, whether it uses a power supply by 1 company or another. There might be some need for a creative solution if a corporation has a unique IT need.

With that, would say either skipping college or getting someone else to pay for it has a bigger influence on your financial means than any other decision you ever make. Being a worker can be a lot like being George Lucas's early years, where everything you made from 1 college degree has to be pumped into another college degree to generate another 10 years of income, which then has to be pumped into the next college degree.

Have seen some military people, who survived the 14 years of fighting the IED, whose education was subsidized, become very wealthy. They bought rental properties when the rest of us were paying back student loans. The best time to join the military was the peak of the cold war. There were basically no losses from 1975-1991. My generation went in after the cold war ended. Military spending was cut & our chances against the IED were as good as any 3rd world grunt. A lot of those who thought the cakewalk of the cold war would continue forever, joined up in 2000.
