iPhone Talking Timer - Stopwatch

As I set about replacing my field box and it's contents, I stumbled upon an iPhone app that's kinda cool. It's called "Glider Timer". Costing only $3, it doesn't represent a major financial commitment. It works well as a talking timer for landing practice and as a stopwatch for contest flying. Some of its features include a log of all your flight times, the ability to count up or down, volume control and many other bells and whistles. Considering I just spent over $100 for a new replacement Seiko this is a real bargain.

Check it out at the Apple iTunes App Store

Here are two Android apps. The first is a stopwatch:

This one is designed for DLGs but people report good things about it:

I had a Talking Timer app that I liked for the iPhone, but after an OS upgrade it no longer talked when the phone went to sleep, which wasn't much help. I tried some other apps that I didn't like and eventually came to a very simple solution

Since music keeps playing when the phone is asleep, I used the first app and recorded 4, 3, and 2-minute countdowns, and just use the music player. One additional benefit is that Siri knows my song list, so I can just press the home button and say "Play '2-minutes practice'" and Siri will launch the music app and start playing the music. No cost, no security pin or swipe to wake the phone, no looking for the application, and you don't have to hunt for the 'start' or 'reset' button while you are watching your plane in the air.

Here is a 2-minute countdown you can load on your device. I had to zip it in order to attach it.

My recommendation is to put each mp3 into a separate album so they don't play one after another. Just set the 'repeat' to none.

If loaded on your iPhone with Siri, hold down the home button and say, 'Play two-minute countdown'. Say 'Repeat' to play again from the beginning. Say 'Pause' to pause.

Let me know if this is useful and I can upload the 3 and 4-minute version.
