What paint should I use to finish field box?

The manual that came with the field box kit recommends polyester resin or epoxy paint however, I'd prefer a less toxic finish.

Would a water borne acrylic polyurethane (E.g. Minwax or Varathane) work? Would it be at least partially fuel proof?

I would use acrilic paint. Something with a glossy finish.

Polyurathane (floor varnish) is one of the most fuel proof and durable finishes there is.

I dunked a sample that had been treated with a water-base polyurethane into some raw glow-fuel. After a couple hours the acrylic finish was soft and easily peeled off. Don't recall the brand.

Best to use the smelly polyurethane.
